Dear Sir!

Help please.

I have Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus installed on Windows XP which I have been using on very basic streaming and DVD burning.

In the last few hours, I have been asked to work on a training DVD that will have:

1) Still images and video clips overlaying (which I do not know how to do)
2) Use of pause feature and linking to PowerPoint (text slide presentation)
3) Chapters (about 4-6)
4) The project should be complete within 14 days.

Therefore, I kindly request for step-by-step tutorial so that I can try the first 2 chapters before I move on with the rest of the clips.

We can try and help:

Using overlay is simple enough but rather than try to explain it using words try this link to a series of video tutorials by Takeoneflix... in this example of Deconsructing a Project you'll get a great understanding of how overlay tracks can work:

Play around with what you have learnt till you are comfortable working with overlay. Once you understand the basic principles you'll find your mind exploding with ideas.... but if you keep things simple you'll find you can work faster and still achive professional looking results.

As for point 2: Keep in mind you are making a video DVD which of course you can pause, FF & RW while playing like with any DVD. While I'm not sure exactly by what you mean by linking to a powerpoint presentation which is NOT a video but a series of still frames. You can incorporat screen grabs from your powerpoint presentation and include in your video as a way of referencing back to a powerpoint presentation.

As far as I know, there is no way of creating links (that you click on like on the internet) in a DVD video.

But lets play around with overlays first....

Clevo is correct in that there is no means of linking to a Power-Point Presentation, from within a video, that is burned onto a DVD. Video does not understand hyper-links, as a video is just a series of images, no text.

You could however convert your PPP to a video clip (which will require a third party screen capture program like TechSmith's Camtasia Studio), and include that in your DVD production. Your PPP could be a "title" (separate video clip), and have it as one of your menu choices.

Inccidentally, in my desperation, I had subscribed to that website but still I cannot get access to the tutorial.

Yes unfortunately they have removed the "freebies", since that was first posted. You now must purchase the tutorials from them. They are a separate business, not affiliated with Corel. Takeoneflix and seeitdoit.tv are one in the same.

What the tutorial demonstrates is using the Sample Project that is included with VS. To learn how to use overlays, and such, just load up the Sample Project, and see just how it is layed out in the timeline. Look at the attributes being used, the effects and so on. With just a little investigative time, you will be able to produce similar videos, using your own ideas..

You should get a more detailed spec of the project
What they could actually mean is they want a DVD that can be loaded on
a computer.
You could create your video clips in Videostudio then create a powerpoint presentation, add your videos to the presentation, create a menu with links to each video and a page with links to documentation.
Within powerpoint you can then compile this to an autoplay cd, when this is inserted into a pc it will automatically play and allow the tutor to select the required video, document etc.
