Encoding question and one other question

I recorded a TV show on a stand alone DVD recorder. The show I recorded ended up on 2 DVD+R disk. I imported them into X2 and am trying to join them into one Dual Layer disk. It works fine however X2 is re-encoding the MPG2 files and they look crappy. I checked the box that states, don't re-encode MPG2 compliant files but it still does it. In past versions I recall seeing an option that showed a bar graph showing in red the portions of video that don't need to be re-encoded. I can't find that in X2. I don't want X2 to touch my video, it was already recorded in good quality and by re-ecoding it it is messing it up. What am I doing wrong?

Also, when I make a video I only have about 5 menu choices and you guys told me you have about 60 of them. I bought X2 Pro, how come I have so few choices? If I try to reinstall the software it wants to delete it and reinstall it. Is there a way to get all the menus without having to reinstall everything?

I don't have X2, but I would suggest you look closely at the file parameters of the dvd recorded material. Mostly they record in odd sizes, so if you haven't matched your project and output files to the same paramters then I think it will re-encode.

Right... For example, if the two original DVDs have different bitrates, at least one of them must be re-encoded.

And, if for some reason Video Studio doesn't "think" the files are compliant, I don't think you can stop it from re-encoding. :(

As for the menu templates, X2 in fact has around 96 of them. It sounds as though you have not installed the Extra Content file which cames as part of your download package.

Is the extra content part of the main .exe file I downloaded or was it a separate file?

Ok, I am officially an idiot!! I went back and checked my order. I think I simply forgot to download the Content Pack and the Bonus Pack. I ordered the software and downloaded it on 9/13/08. Is there anyway I can get back in and download the stuff I forgot or am I out of luck? If I can where do I go to download the content I forgot?

Hello James,

I ordered my upgrade on 9/10 and I still have the e-mail where they notified me that they had accepted my order. This e-mail had the links to download the software. I just check them and it seems they still work, so if you still have this e-mail, you may want to double check it.
