Transitions Have a Life of Their Own

Can anyone tell me how to stop transitions from automtically inserting themselves on the Overlay tracks. Each time I edit one or move one slightly leaving a small space, a transition automatically inserts itself. What I have done so far to resolve this issue:

Looked in the manual
Looked here in the forum
Cursed a few times
Looked under Preferences to make sure I had NOT ticked auto insert
Taken a deep breath and decided to come here where help is awesome

It is no big deal to just delete them each time they show up, but it is a little annoying. Thanks for any help with this issue.

Transitions don't automatically insert on the overlay tracks, ever. BUT, if you manually overlap clips in an overlay track then a transition will be inserted. It turns out the type of transition that is inserted is the one specified in Preferences, whether the Auto Add Transition box is checked or not.

Thanks for clarifying this for me Black Lab. It has never happened to me before since VS 6 days and so now it is clear. I knew I could get an answer here. Take care. :)
