VS9 - No audio on clip preview

Post by Archimago »

When playing an MPEG clip in the Preview window, I get no sound when "Clip" is selected. When "Project" is selected, the sound is fine.

Under Preferences, Instant Playback is set for "Preview Window". I don't think this is a resource issue (3GHz PC, 1GB RAM, 30GB HD, no other apps running, no A/V software, etc.) Using the same clip in VS8, there's no sound problem during Clip preview.

I'm having a smilar problem with the UVS9 Trial. MPEG don't have sound when I play them in the program, nor do they when I play them in Windows Media Player.

Did you by chance select "Split Audio" to move the audio of the video into a separate audio track?

No, Split Audio wasn't selected. I did some further tests and found it's only occurring with MPEG clips. Quicktime and AVI clips don't have this problem. And I was wrong when I said it worked in VS8 - I'm having the same audio problem in both VS8 and VS9.

Problem solved - it was a codec problem. This thread helped me track it down. I uninstalled a recent codec pack and everything is working now.
