Drag and Drop function not working
Hello, yesterday I had a problem with the drag and drop of video clip thumbnails, video efects etc into the timeline. It was asif the left click did nothing, it neither selected the clip not allowed for draggin. If i right clicked, it would select the clip and i could add it to the end of the timeline from the dropdown menu.
Anyone know a reason for this? Unusually, today it seems to work OK

Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately, though, we usually need more information than you have provided, in order the able to give a reasonable sort of answer... We don't even know which version of video studio you were using, what type of video you were trying to drag and drop, nor anything about your computer resources.
In all my years on the Board, though, that is the first time I have heard of this happening. Hopefully, if someone else has heard of it, they will be able to suggest something.
But in the meantime, I am glad it seems to be working again. Sometimes, these mysterious things happen with computers and a rest overnight or a simple reboot corrects the problem...

Reading time
xVid is a highly compressed format, and I believe what's happening is that it's simply taking a while for VS to "read" the file before clicking on it "takes".
Maybe the larger the clip, the more pronounced the effect will be.
I can replicate the effect, in VS11.5 at least, by clicking on an AVCHD .mts clip in my library. Initially, there is a delay in the clip appearing to be selected after clicking on it. It's as if clicking on it had no effect - until the selection border appears around it.
In my case, on my 1.83Ghz C2D laptop with 2Gb RAM running XP Pro SP2, the delay is only about 2 seconds for the 15 - 28Mb .mts clips.
If instead of just clicking on the clips I try to drag them to the timeline, nothing happens unless I hold down the mouse button for at least the same time (about 2 seconds) with the cursor on the timeline.
Once you've clicked on the clips, you can click on them again and VS will select them immediately, without any delay, and you can also drag them to the timeline without having to hold the cursor on the timeline as described above.
Happy days!

Hey thanks for the replies, I dunno if thats the problem though. Because it works now, and the file sizes are very small, from like 3 - 10 mb each only. Right clicking selected instantly. Liek normally I can left click and the clip is selected and a selection border put aorund the thumbnail. I can also click and drag. Before it was just like clicking on a 'dead' area, cant drag and cant select.
Shut down and restart?
Glad to hear it's working now!
You might try saving and then closing your project and VS, then starting VS again and trying it.
Does the effect happen then, for the first time you try selecting/dragging the clips?

Right - but what I was saying was that after you close the project, and VS, and then open VS again, you will see the effect the first time you click on the clips.
After that, they should select or drag and drop OK.
It's easy to test out that theory on your pc. Just close VS, if you already have it open, then start it again and see if the effect happens again.
If it doesn't, and you have no trouble selecting the clips from the get go when you open VS, it must be something else that's happening....

Misbehaving Drag-n-drop
..if it helps (?) which I doubt it does, I too have experienced some errant drag-n-drop behaviour on a Vista Home Premium machine (quad 2.66Ghz, stuffed to the gunnels with goodies).
Sometimes, dragging clips/images direct onto the timeline just doesn't do anything and I have to explicitly bring them in via the file menu. Not really looked at the mechanics of this, but will do so this eve to see if I can narrow down the behaviour.
