Titles disappear as they are being added to time line

New to Ulead 11.5 but have done editing before and I have 2 problems.
1 is that Ulead crashes a lot and there is no rhyme or reason to it. It does not seem to be one area of editing that causes it to crash. Are there particular codecs etc that function better than others or is the program that unstable.
2. Sometimes when I insert titles in the time line they just disappear. One minute they are there and the next they are gone. Any suggestions?
Using Asus laptop with 2.5 processor and 4 Gigs of Ram and an Ati Mobility Radeon HD 3650 video card with a gig of Ram. Any help would be appreciated because I really like the videos I have produced but these 2 issues make it very frustrating
