WinDVD 9 plus Blu-ray with an NVidia GeForce 8800 GTX

Post by Baz »

Has anyone got this to install with an NVidia GeForce 8800 GTX, I have tried to install my older version 8, but it won't install. I have used the Advisor tool and I get blanks (no green ticks) for each status, no warnings. I don't want to upgrade to version 9 if I am going to hit the same brick wall.

Why not install the trial version? I think it's only the blu-ray support that doesn't work until you activate it.

Good suggestion, but given my bad experience with version 8 I don't trust that it will highlight if I will have compatability issues. I have, however, learned a little more about my problems via the web. I have just bought a LiteOn BD reader which came with Cyberlink PowerDVD BD Edition (limited e.g. only stereo). This loaded OK but reported problems when I tried to playback a blu-ray disc (Video card not HDCP). I discovered via another forum that the NVidia Geforece 8800 series does not support HDCP over the dual-link DVI and it recommended changing the resolution down to 1280x800 which does use HDCP (sinle link effectively). Once I did this the playback kicked into life.

After my success using the lower resolution I thought I would try to install version 8 again with the 1280x800 resolution. Still no go, same old error message.

I may just take the risk this time, now that I have PowerDVD BD working, as I feel I understand the problem a bit better.

Cheers,
Baz.
