I have just installed Videostudio X2 and get the message 'Failed to initialize the video capture plug-in' when I click the 'Capture Video' button. If I go to Tools/Change Capture Plug-in..., the only plug-in is Corel Capture Component. I am trying to capture data from a VCR via the USB port using EasyCap Video Grabber.

Hi barcode and welcome to the forums!
First, there is only one capture plug-in. Up to and including VS10, there were several, but these were all swapped for just one in VS11 and subsequent versions.
Next, EasyCap use to come with an SE version of Video Studio which was modified by the hardware manufacturer to work with their grabber. Unfortunately, they don't share the secret so other versions of VS don't necessarily work with it. That is possibly what is happening in your case. The usual solution is to install that SE version, and capture with that. Then open the captured video in X2 for editing.
What format are you trying to capture in, by the way? The best would be mpeg-2 if you intend to burn a DVD later on.

Thanks for the reply Ken. Yes I did try the SE version but had hassles with the size of the file it was producing. 20Gb for 20 minutes of video but that was on a PC that was a bit old. I'll install it on this PC and see how I go again. I'll be back

20GB for 20 minutes sounds like you are capturing uncompressed AVI (about 65GB per hour). You should capture either DV-AVI (13GB per hour - easy to edit) or, as Ken suggested, MPEG-2.

Thanks Black Lab for the info. I'm new at this as you have noticed.
