PI 12, serious problems.

Post by colcrys »

Newbie here.

And, here's my spiel and problem.

Been using PI since Version 8, and actually, without any problems.

Been using PI 12 for over a year, again, with no problems.

Two months ago I tried the TBYB of PI X3 but I didn't like it and deleted it.

Since then, my life - as far as using PI 12 - has been hell.

When trying to start, the splash screen would come up, and then loading seemed to freeze when it got to "Initializing Main Window and Components" - and then the splash screen would disappear but the "Main Window" wouldn't open up.

Depending on the "day" - about 10 to 20 seconds later, the main window would suddenly pop up, but with the internal program splash screen allowing for Full Edit and etc., and the default profile opened.

I would clear the "Show this..." etc., radio box, then close all the various managers on the right side of the main window (since I don't want them visible all the time), set up my preferences, and begin to work.

When it comes time to close, the program wont close either with using the "Exit" command or clicking the "X." If I wait a few seconds - maybe 10 or 15 - and click the "X" again, or right click on the bottom bar and choose close, the program will then close.

BUT, when I go through the exact same scenario and open the program again, I again get the internal splash screen of of options, and all of my preferences are back to the default preferences.

The steps I have gone through to solve this have been:

Repair

Uninstall, reinstall.

Uninstall again using the information I obtained on "How to do a complete uninstall of PI 12" including going through the registry and the uninstall information keys...and then reinstalling.

Uninstalling and then even reinstalling XP Pro and SP2.

Uninstall all .net and then reinstalling back up to .net2 with the update.

Uninstall and then go back to using PI 10 - which works even if a little slower than before and showing the occasional "Not Responding" message which then disappears after a few seconds and the program "Responds" but at least it saves my preferences and does the job - sort of although I miss the "White Balance" and a couple other upgrades in PI 12.

Go through all the "Services" and set them to default values (except automatic updates and the wimpy MS Firewall since I use Zone Alarm), set up iedit as an exception in the new SP2 "DEP," - did this many times - of course updated all of my video drivers, bought a new 2GB stick of memory even though the old one was fine.

And to today when I reinstalled PI 12 because PI 10 has been working for a couple weeks and I wanted to try PI 12 again...but exactly the same long list of problems with PI 12.

Everything else on my 'puter works fine, including all my other art programs - Illustrator and Photoshop CS3 for example. Only PI 12 seemed to get totally messed up by the Corel version of PI as a trial - which, by the way, was only on my computer for about an hour before I axed it.

I have used every fix help I could find on this forum and others, scoured the net looking for help, and have found nothing that solves this problem. My hardware environment has not changed since before I tried and quickly deleted the TBYB Corel X3, my software as far as major software has also not changed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks sjj1805.

Checked the thread but nothing there looks like it will help in this case since I've done all of the relevant things - including doing System Restore and etc., many times to no avail.

PI X3 did something and now I'm stumped. I can't do a complete reformat and fresh install of XP right now - far too much work to be done with what is on my drive to take even a day off - but since it was X3 that caused the problem and the problem is only in PI 12, there has to be a solution somewhere.

And thanks for your efforts on the board. I know it's doubtful Corel gives you any kudos for doing their work for them.
