For some reason, when I do put a transition between two existing clips, the transition will default, or have more bias, onto the first clip causing the second clip to move forward [the end of the second clip will move towards 0:00 in the timeline].
That is exactly what a transition does. It causes the two clips to overlap each other, resulting in (for simplicity sake) a crossfade between the two. So in essence, if you have a 2 second transition the second clip will move to the left, overlapping the first clip. The two clips will overlap in equal time increments.
