Two questions: [when view in "timeline" mode, not window/poster mode]
1) Is there a way to turn off the auto transition insert when inserting a video clip that over laps an existing clip in a timeline?
I'd like to insert a video clip in front of an existing clip (on video tracks 2, 3, etc) and have the end of the new clip butt up against the begining of the existing clip .... without a transition being inserted.
2) Is there a way to set the transitions so that they insert themselves equally on both the end of one clip and the begining of the next clip? Example: A 2 second transition will "cover" 1 second at the end of the first clip and 1 second at the begining of the second clip.
For some reason, when I do put a transition between two existing clips, the transition will default, or have more bias, onto the first clip causing the second clip to move forward [the end of the second clip will move towards 0:00 in the timeline].

You can turn that function on and off under File>Preferences. Also, if it is just one clip you are inserting it may be easier just to remove the transition

That is exactly what a transition does. It causes the two clips to overlap each other, resulting in (for simplicity sake) a crossfade between the two. So in essence, if you have a 2 second transition the second clip will move to the left, overlapping the first clip. The two clips will overlap in equal time increments.

Re: X2 Turning off auto transitions with clip insertion
(#1) I do have the insert transition turned off - That's what's so frustrating about the odd behavior. I can and do delete the transition after inserting the second clip.Black Lab wrote:less2008 wrote:-

(#2) Duh !!! I guess I was having brain freeze. You're right, the two clips HAVE TO overlap for a transition. Somehow that concept had me baffled - Thanks for answering the obvious
