program removal
program removal
I have image pals 2 on my machine (It came with a DMS mapping program) as well as well as photo impact version 4. I want to remove the image pals2 without damaging the photo impact. I am now using the photo impact for the DMS maps. I can't find either on the add remove programs list and there doesn't seem to be a removal command or utility in the program. I need to free up disk space. I just don't want to go into the program files folder and delete program folders because I don't know which are related. Can anybody help me?

I doubt that, because the DMS mapping program is just a library of maps. and both programs are just ways to access, view and manipulate the maps. furthermore, the photo impact was sent as an upgrade

When I have been faced with a program that does not have any uninstaller associated with it - I rename the directory to see what happens.
If there are any hiccups the directory can be renamed back again.
If all goes well then the directory can be deleted.
As further insurance you can also create a back up of the directory before you delete it. Various ways to do this such as Microsoft back up or a disc imaging program such as Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image.
A simpler method is to make a zip copy with winzip or a similar program
You can then store them on a CD/DVD or an external hard drive.

I've never heard of Image Pals until doing a Google search, finding it to be a very old product of Ulead. The only documentation I could find on ImagePals 2.0 is that it was realeased in 1994, which I don't think the program would work with the current operating systems (XP or Vista), and probably not written for Win95 or Win98. Given that bit, it will not have windows installer, that the current OSs would recognize. Win 3.1 or Win 3.0 required a different means to installing software, which basically amounted to copy/paste. There was no add/remove programs, you just deleted it from your computer..
What OS are you running this on? How did you get it installed? I would say that you should be able to just delete it. As for DVDMF4, I do have DVDMF4 Disc Creator, and it worked fine on Win98se, and XP. It should have had an uninstaller. However your version is probably similar to that included with MSP8, an SE type, which is installed by MSP8. Even with that, in the add/remove there is a provision to uninstall it.
I would first try the suggestions mentioned by Steve, to ensure that removing it from your system, does not cause any problems.
