Specify burn speed?

Post by videojanitor »

In another thread, I was advised to burn discs at a slower speed than specified by the media -- ie: burn 8X discs at 4X or slower for more robust data.

Question is, how does one go about doing that in DVD WS? When I pull down the menu for the burn speed, the only options I see are "MAX" and "8X," which are the same thing. :?:

Which version of DVD Workshop are you running, and have you applied all the recent Burning Patches from Ulead's support pages?

Hi George,

I am running version 1.0 -- I recently applied the latest 16X DVD Burning Pack (dated 11/18/2004), but that didn't give me any further options in this regard.

Perhaps it's just not available in version 1?

I may have just answered my own question -- I finally got around to installing the trial version of version 2, and that DOES have options for slower burn speeds. Ah, what the heck, I guess I'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy it ...

Thanks for your help!

compare the differences

Hi,

Don't forget to do a comparison between the DVD Workshop 2.0 FULL and EXPRESS versions (to see which version meets your needs)

George,

I most certainly checked out the comparions before buying. It was pretty clear that "Express" is good for me -- I don't need any capture plug-ins, DLT, Macrovision, CSS Encryption, Regional Coding, etc. etc. I'm just interested in the usability enhancements, like the ability to check chapter points in the "finish" mode, and set the burn speed -- nothing earth-shattering.

One thing I did notice with the trial version though is that I couldn't hear the AC-3 audio that was included with the MPEG file I imported -- I *assume* that's because the trial version does not support AC-3. Apparently not even for *listening* to files that were previously encoded. If I still can't hear it when I get the full version of Express, then we've got a problem!

I've no problem with AC-3 2/0, but it may be that the trial version does not have it implemented for licensing reasons. Dolby are not exactly known for giving away licences!

Devil,

Thanks for the info. On the download page for the trial version, one of the limitations listed is:

"No support for Dolby® Digital audio files"

I guess when they say "no support," they mean it -- you can't even listen to them. For what it's worth, version 1.0 didn't support it either, but I found you could enable it by editing one of the .ini files. At least then you could hear something as you were looking for chapter points. Later patches disabled this, so I always had to make sure I was running an un-patched version.
