Problems re-installing vs 10 plus onto new hard drive

Post by val »

Trialed vs 10 plus tbyb in 2006 then ordered and loaded disc. All OK until I tried to re-install this disc onto new 500gb hdd. vs 10_Bonus and vs 10_tbyb_e_na seemed to have installed OK but vs 10_contentpack_e has a message before installation is completed of "Installer cannot find ulead vs 10 plus ESD on your machine. Please install vs 10 plus ESD first". What is this ESD file they are asking me to install. I only have the disc I purchased. All that loads is another tbyb version.

Welcome to the forums.

Where did you buy the original disc -- from Ulead/Corel? Or from a less reputable supplier...? I ask because I have never heard of a TBYB version coming on a disc. An SE version, yes, but not TBYB which is normally only a download as far as I am aware...

Thanks for the quick reply. The original tbyb trial was a down load but the disc was a Ulead product sent by "Element 5 Digital River"
The seller of the product was Digital River Germany the publisher was Ulead Systems Taiwan. The disc came from Germany and the invoice states it is the ulead vs 10 plus (full tbyb) CD on demand. Not sure if this helps.

Ulead used to offer CDs that contained all of their current TBYB programs. I haven't seen that on the U.S. site for sometime though. If you wanted to purchase one of the programs included on the CD, you would then need to either purchase an activation/un-lock key or purchase and download a full/ugprade version. I would imagine that those TBYB CDs were also handle through Element 5.

What appears to be happening, you first need to un-lock the TBYB version before the content pack can be installed. Since VS10+ is now 2 versions old, and considered a phased-out product by Corel, you will need to go to Corel's Web Site, and their FAQ answers for Trial version activation. The only FAQ I could locate for activation of VS is for VS11, none for VS10.

When you installed your VS10, was there a screen similar to this:
Image

If so you will need to click on the activate button to activate it. You will need your activation/unlock key that would have been sent to you by Ulead. If you no longer know or have this, you will need to contact Corel for a new one. Be prepared to provide proof of purchase.

I have never activated a TBYB version though have previously installed one or two for research purposes. If I recall correctly a TBYB has a slightly different Windows Directory Structure, and so just as SE versions of software from manufacturers like Toshiba which also have a different directory structure - patches and bonus material installers cannot find the copy of VideoStudio that you are either attempting to update or add bonus material to.

The old Ulead Websites used to tell you that Patches and Updates cannot be applied to TBYB and SE versions. It seems that Corel have missed that vital piece of information off their website.

You cannot simply rename the directories either - there are obviously other subtle changes perhaps in the Windows Registry.

Thanks to you all for your help. I have tried to reactivate with the 18 digit serial number provided with the disc but that did not work so not sure if that was the reactivate number or not. Although the age prevents technical support I may try Corels customer service to see if they can assist. If that fails it's down to buying a newer version.

Thought I would let you know that Corel came to the party, agreed I had purchased the disc from them and sent me a link to VS10 via Email which I now have installed onto my computer with a working backup disc. Many thanks for your assistance.
