Saving menu configurations in VS9

Post by whenwillitwork »

Following the guide in this forum for VS8, I was always able to preserve menu settings by closing the 'Create DIsc' window and saving a project. When I would go back (usually after the program crapped out) my menu settings would still be there.

Since upgrading to VS9, this no longer seems to work and to my dismay, Ulead has still not added the ability to save menu configurations from within the 'Create Disc' dialog.

I am working on a project with eight sub-menus and 32 chapters. The thumbnail must be modified on most of the chapters as well as the identifying text for each chapter. VS9 craps out the same as VS8 and I really don't feel like wasting my time with retyping and reconfiguring menus.

Any ideas, workarounds?

Saving menu configurations in VS9 - Works for me!

You sure have an odd name,

However I tested this feature because I thought that it did not work for me either. However when testing (just a few minutes ago), I have found that as long as I do not make any changes to the project itself, all menu settings that I changed were saved and restored for me to modify and/or create a new DVD. I had opened a project I was working on, created some Chapters, selected various Menu backgrounds, changed titles and title fonts, closed the Create Disk dialog box, selected Save project, and then closed Ulead Video Studio 9. Then started UVS9 and selected Create Disk again, all my menu settings were preserved.

I know the usefulness of this feature, and just how long it can take to locate the correct points in ones video project for menus, menu backgrounds, menu titles, font settings, etc. I usually keep a record of the actual chapter time line points so that if I need to make minor changes to the project (which deletes all data from the "Ulead Video Create Disk" saved settings), I have a list of the Chapter locations.

Please test carefully. How did you obtain your version? Mine was via Ulead Mall download.

Maybe other UVS9 users can test and see if this works or not for them?

I have tested the scenarios and you are right! I think I must have tweaked a few settings in the project when I lost my menus last night. I tried it again this morning and as long as I changed nothing else in the project, the menus remain intact (the compression & burn settings are lost, but has always functioned that way).

VS8 may have been the same way, I'm not sure I ever had reason to go back and change other project settings after making the menus before.

Thanks for the help!
