Information on the new VideoStudio X2

Post by mscotstar »

I have Ulead 11 Plus. I'm thinking about upgrading to the new VideoStudio X2. I know a lot of my friends have Sony Vegas and i am tempted to try that. Can anyone tell me what new Video filter effects videostudio x2 has. Also does it have a cookie cutter and a feathering option to blend two scenes together as i know Ulead 11 doesn't have this feature but Sony Vegas does.

Many Thanks

X2 has many video filters, including some new ones from NewBlue.

I'm not sure what a cookie cutter or feathering options are. But to "blend" two scenes together you would simply use a crossfade or other transitions.

Perhaps you mean two scenes flowing into eachother? Which can be done with masks. In VX12 you can imnport your own masks.

Feathering - or being able to have a varying amount of transparency (alpha) accross a clip - now that would be nice :)

AFAIK this does not exist in X2, the masks are total or transparent, with no inbetween and no gradation. But if anyone knows if this is possible, I'd love to know.

Is that like a very slow crossfade to black (or any other colour?)

Masks are definitely not total. They depend on the grey value which is offered in the mask. So it could be a gradient or anything else.

One could make his/her own mask and use this to combine clips. Very simple and powerfull.

When i mean Cookie cutter i mean, putting 2 clips on my time line. One of them being in my overlay track, then i cut the parts out of the scene i want and put them together in one scene with no dark line running through the middle, because i can feather it out making it look an original scene.

I"ve attached an example of what i mean. Thank you.

As I wrote before this can be done with masks. Although your "cookie cutter" seems a lot more user friendly to me.
