I know I've been asking a lot from the community lately, but I have yet another question. Did Corel supplied the good old CD/DVD Disc Image Recorder for burning ISO files with VS Pro X2, like they did in previous VS versions? Usually, I find it in the Bonus Content directories and install it manually, as I find it pretty useful, having carried over a large amount of ISO images in recent years. But this time I can't find it anywhere. Perhaps it's been added somewhere within the editor itself, in a menu or something. I searched through the PDF manual but no luck there either. Of course, I could just dig out my VS11+ Bonus Content files and install that one, but if it's already there in VS Pro X2 somehow, I'd love to know.

This is one of those quirky little differences between the Pro Version and the Ultimate Version.

With Ultimate you get a copy of DVD Copy 6.
With Standard & Pro you get nothing.

Wait a minute, there's an "Ultimate" version of VS now? Wow, I didn't see that on Corel's website, only X2 and Pro X2. Guess I'll install it using my VS11+ Bonus Content.

Or, alternatively, I might be curious to know if there's any recommendable free software for burning ISO files, similar to Ulead's old Disc Image Recorder. You know? No pretense, no nonsense, and laughably easy to use.

The Ultimate version is only available to certain parts of the world. North America and, I suppose, the moon were excluded.

Yah, I guess the moon got excluded as well, since I don't see an Ultimate version of VS on Corel's website. Thanks for clearing that out for me.

Imgburn also offers greater functionality than the Ulead/Corel recorder - for one thing, you can edit the name of your disc before you burn it, which can be quite useful.

I also use CloneCD, which enables me to load disc ISO images into a "virtual drive" from which you can play them with your favourite software DVD player, such as WinDVD.

My own preference for burning ISO files to disc however is still CD DVD Speed, a freeware utility available on the Nero website. From the "create disc" tab, I select the "burn image" checkbox and then select the appropriate ISO file to burn to the disc.

The advantage for me is that I then have a graphical record of the burn strategy adopted by my burner when creating the disc, which also shows up on the disc quality scan I run on the disc after burning, again using CD DVD Speed. The latter function only works with burners made by Lite-on, NEC and BenQ and Samsung (but requiring a small registry tweak to enable the Samsung drives)

Apologies for drifting off the thread, but I have to say that since trying out Taiyo Yuden DVD blank media, purchased online, I have not bothered buying anything else - nothing else comes close to it for burn quality, particularly the Premium grade 8x DVD+R discs when used in my Samsung burner.

Yes, that's what I'm planning to do actually; I found the standalone setup.exe file for it on my VS11+ Bonus Content archive. I just wanted to make sure this little app wasn't already there in VS Pro X2. I did not see it at first, but I thought it must have been there somewhere, hence why I posted a topic about it. As it turns out, you were once again right Steve. Disc Image Recorder is not included in VS Pro X2.

And thanks 2Dogs for your numerous suggestions. I was also looking for alternatives, so that's very useful to me.
