A very interesting topic...

I also own a HF100 (European). It is new to me that the HF100 isn't supported. I had several contacts with Corel Support and to be honest the support is not good. :(

They use phrases like:
- "It is cheap, so don't expect too much"
- "It is not a professional product."

Please write this on the box. So I know what I am buying. :D

I have adressed an issue regarding the handeling of progressive AVCHD.
See also this topic: AVCHD 25p: Transitions, titles are rendered as interlaced.

For the most part Corel Video Studio X2 works good. But the result is not up to (my) standard yet. I hope there will be fixes soon for a the problems there are with AVCHD. I want to be able to do proper editing with 25p material. :!:

Boy, they really know how to sell themselves. :?

The real issue is that NO consumer-grade NLE can handle AVCHD. That's what should be written on the box of the camcorders.

I must say that VS X2 is on the right track. All components are there to deliver a good product. What is missing is a good follow-up on the issues there clearly are.

The smart proxy solution is a very good idea. Also I love the smart rendering part. Smart rendering is one of the main reasons I bought VS X2. I use the trial version a couple of times and it looked very promising. But now looking more closely, the product isn't finished yet. For AVCHD at least it isn't. This is a real disappointment. I surely hope Corel will update X2 soon. And also solve "my" AVCHD 25p issue.

What's not true? That consumer apps can't handle AVCHD or the makers of the cams should state that?

Xyzzy2,

Based on one of your earlier posts in this thread, I think you are referencing the problem of jumps after transitions because of a frame sequence of ABCBCD. This problem was reported earlier to Corel and their tech support has asked for test clips. You must have gotten a tech support person who is not aware of this.

If you read the following thread, particularly the 1st and 6th message, it tells how to upload test clips to Corel's ftp site. I suggest uploading a short file that contains the problem (and was created by X2) and also the raw unedited clip, zipped together.

... that consumer apps can't handle AVCHD. Not all. As for Corel X2 - you are right.

And what ones can? I'm sure the folks here that are having trouble with AVCHD would be interested.

Well sure, but they are proprietary so they will work. I'm talking about software you can buy off the shelf, software that will work with any AVCHD cam, just like there is software that will work with any Mini-DV cam.

And therein lies my point. There aren't any because of all the different proprietary AVCHD codecs. Until that gets mainstreamed, like DV-AVI, there will always be software problems. The technology is just too new and ever-evolving for the software companies to catch up. :(

Black Lab,

It isn't just limited to AVCHD, I have the exact same issue with my JVC HD-GZ40 using the HD MPEG2 TOD PALMV format option. I will also try to upload a sample to Corel this weekend (time permitting), but I might need some assistance.

I purchased VS X2 on the basis that it could handle HD end to end, its misleading advertising and disappointing.

I am not sure that I can make any commercial here

I left X2 months ago (I had the big problem with playing of clips) and use Cyberlink Power Director Ultra 7.
No problems, no stress, everything is OK.
What is important for me, I can make AVCHD (or BD) disc structure without any disc. as I can see X2 still has no option.
Cheers.

I've just tried Power Director and unfortunately it seems to me that although it does quite a good job at editing the original AVCHD footage, it is a bit inconsistent with the quality. I gives some pixelation at random for no obvious reason. So, I got fantastic two minutes of video, and then 20s of pixelated video... Strange, but it confirms what we can read in the forum, that AVCHD isn't still a uniform format.
I still haven't found any software which is really capable of editing AVCHD. I'm forced to use Upshift and then edit it in X2. The video looses some of its 'sharpness' but it is not really obvious if you don't compare it immediately with the original footage. Corel! Get on with the job and fix the blips!!!!
