scanner icon/my workplace/advance button? PIX3

Post by brucefl »

hi,

I installed PIX3, and I am looking for the scanner icon in the main window? I recall something about an advance button in my workspace? I can not seem to find it anyplace in X3, other than under file.
I looked under options and can not find it there either?

It looks like I can hit the customize, and drag it over. Is that how you do it. (yes I know I could try it) Best to ask before messing something up
thanks Bruce

scanner icon

Post by brucefl »

Not really, before you use to be able to click the advance and have the icon of the scanner next to the camera?

Seems the only thing I have been able to do, is under customize, is find the scanner, and drag it next to the camera. Though I would like the icon there, rather than it saying scanner. Not sure why they have done this in the last 2 or 3 versions, rather than have the scanner icon already there. Grant it a lot use camera's, but I still use a scanner. A lot easier to hit the icon, than to go file, then scanner, and pick it.

I agree, I do a lot of scanning too ranging from old photographs (A few thousand) to books.

My computer master plan has been to rid the house of as much clutter as I can. Lp records etc are now MP3 files. VHS tapes are on DVD discs.
Photographs are all up in the loft because they are now JPG's on my computers. Slow but tedious are books. They can take up a lot of storage space but make great PDF files.

I am still trying to get my scanner icon in the tool bar. Tech support tells me to:
1. Select File: Scanner - Select Source. A list of TWAIN devices appears. Select a device as the image data source.Note: If you only have one TWAIN device connected, that device automatically becomes the TWAIN source. 2. Click Device Type to specify the type of input device and then click OK. 3. In the Select Source dialog box, click the appropriate driver and then click Select. You are now ready to use your input device by clicking the corresponding button on the Standard Toolbar.

I have not had any luck getting it into the toolbar? Which if it is suppose to be where it has been in past versions, would be beside the camera icon?
thanks

Add Scanner that will also contain a drop down box on the menu bar.

1. Got to Window, Customise

2. Commands tab

3. On the Menu side, make sure File is highlighted then in the right side box, Command: find Scanner.

4. Click on Scanner, hold and drag up to your Menu bar.

5.Click on Profiles tab, and choose Save Current As - if you have a customises/personal workspace, save as that. It will ask if you wish to overwrite, just click on yes and your profile .xum will be saved in C:\Program Files\Corel\PhotoImpactX3\Profiles....... Close.

You will now have the scanner icon - drop down box that says 'Scanner' on your Menu bar.

scanner icon

Post by brucefl »

Have done that, and now have
saved the profile, only problem is
I still don't have a scanner icon.
Beside the camera, I have a label saying scanner
with the drop down list.
Even in the cutomize, if you look to the left their is
no scanner icon? Their are ones for the camera and other
things?
I use to be able to click the icon, then the scanner software
would come up, since ver. 3, now I click scanner it gives me the list
then I have to click on it, or use the short cut key control F7.

That's all there is, no "picture" type icon for the scanner. I checked my versions 11, 12, and X3 all are the same..

vs 11/advanced/ x3 no icon

Post by brucefl »

In PI11 I have to click the advanced to get the scanner icon.
When I click customize in x3,
I right click the tool bar.
Click customize,/command/look down the list
for scanner. click scanner (which does not have an icon next to it)
just below the camera, which has an icon.
then click the scanner, right click drag to the tool bar, next to the camera icon, and it drops the label, and no icon.
If I right click while the customize box is open, I right click over the scanner, says delete/ scanner&r/default style, text only/image and text/
begin a group.
I have tried clicking on default style(where it is now) image and text, with no luck.
I am assuming where their is no icon in the customize list, when it is dragged over, no icon appears because it is not their to begin with?
thanks Bruce

 I do see the scanner icon in PI-11, however it is not present in PI-12, or X3. For some unknown reason Ulead and Corel neglected to provide an icon in the later versions. So you're correct, there's no scanner icon contained in the program. I seem to recall this being brought to light when PI-12 was first released..

This time I tried all workspace settings, looking under File Menu>Scanner, and the customize dialog. No icon..

Well, at least I know I am not dreaming now lol
When I emailed tech support, according to their explanation,
Tech support said initially "2. Click Device Type to specify the type of input device and then click OK. 3. In the Select Source dialog box, click the appropriate driver and then click Select. You are now ready to use your input device by clicking the corresponding button on the Standard Toolbar.

Then said if that didn't work, it was probably not possible.
They did forward my comments to their customer support manager. Just makes it so much easier to have the scanner button available.
thanks bruce
