I paid $49.99, downloaded it, installed it and IT DOES NOT RUN!
It displays the start up screen, I select the editor, it briefly displays and then crashed the program.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled many times.
Now what?

UVS9 works great for most of us.
rculver00,
I understand your concern, this sometimes happens to me when installing software.
I am please to say that UVS9 install OK for me, except that I later had issues when installing Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 which I do not install on my computer if I want to use UVS9.
Your problem could be hardware or software, is it so hard to tell without more information. What other video software do you have installed?
To assist, can you please take time out to provide us with a little more detail about your set up?
For example, below I have listed the obvious hardware and software that I use, it is not complete but is a start.
Hardware:
CPU: P4 2.0GHz
Memory: 512MB 330 MHz DDR RAM
HD: two 7500 RPM, 2MB Cache
Partitions in 1st Hard Drive: 20 GB for OS and Programs, 25 GB forPersonal Data, 30 GB for Capture only.
Partitions in 2st Hard Drive: 2x 60 GB for Video Projects.
Video Capture card: WinFast XP TV 2000 TV Tuner Card.
DVD Burner: Pioneer DVR-107D Single Layer times 8 burner.
Software:
OS: Windows 2000
Partion Format type: NTFS
Ulead Video Studio versions: UVS6, UVS7, UVS8, UVS9 (only using UVS9, now).
Still image editor: Ulead PhotoImpact 10.
Video Format used:
PAL DVD or PAL MPEG2, 720x576, Constant or Variable Bit Rates of 6000 to 8000 BPS.
Frame Type: Lower Field First, sometimes Frame Based.
Video Quality setting: default of 70%
Audio setting: LPCM or whatever let me fit all the video in on one disk.
Things that you could try, 1) redownloading the software, 2) downloading the Trial version and test this. 3) if you have anyway to back up your computer (ie os image on the hard drive) so you can restore the image after testing? I have used a backup program that came free on a compter magazine. 4) I have reinstalled the OS and then UVS9 (so I could determine that I had issue with Microsoft Windows Update 3.1) many times to fix issues. I make backups regulary so I can restore to a working point.
What are you able/willing to do to determine the issue? Reinstalling is time consuming and painful, but I am very determined as being able to use UVS9 for video editing is very important to me.

Video Studio 9 - DOES NOT RUN - But does for many others
Question for others, is there anyone else who has issues with this? My UVS9 is going great!
I wonder what OS your using and what Critical Updates, etc you have installed. Not that I would expect that others somewhere are not already using UVS9 on the same configuration.
I once had a problem with UVS6, and found the issue was due to faulty memory. The computer worked fine for most programs, except when I used it for Video Editing or high end games. I do not have time for Computer games so I had not tested this at first but I used a test program which tested the speed of graphics. Every time it attempted High Quality graphics, my PC would restart. After changing memory I have had no issues. There is a slim chance you problem is hardware related. Video Editing pushes the PC beyond normal programs.
If you find that the UVS9 trial version fails, is the UVS8 trial version still on the Ulead Site? You could try this, if you find that both fail, then I would guess there is something wrong with you PC.
Then I can only thing left is to suggest reinstalling your OS, and then installing UVS9 again. But only install your OS and then UVS9 and supporting items, like DirectX 9c, but not critical updates. A painful thing to do, I know I have recently performed this task many times in attempting to get Analogue video capture working. The sad thing was analogue capture always was working, but I was asking for too high a quality that my hardware was not fast enough to support. Now that I understand Analogue Capture better, I have no issues.
Apologies I do not have anything more promising to offer.
