DVD Workshop Express and Dolby Digital

Post by rncala »

If I encode elemental streams (m2v+wav) in TMPGEncPlus 2.5 can DVD Workshop Express transcode the LPCM audio (wav) file to 2-channel Dolby Digital (AC-3) when I author / burn my disc?

I'm thinking about moving up from Ulead's DVD MovieFactory 2 SE to DVD Workshop Express, but the AC-3 audio transcoding is a critical feature. Workshop Express must transcode third party LPCM wav files.

Thanks in advance for any information you can share!

Rob :)

As the audio will require re-encoding, anyway, why not do the original encoding in DVDWS? The latest encoders in it are as good as those in TMPGEnc, are easier to use and are faster AND it will save you the audio re-encode.

Thanks George and Devil!

I'll give it a try and let you know how things work out.

I've been trying to find a really good authoring program with AC-3 transcoding, motion menus, customizable buttons and tumbnail positions for $50-100, but haven't had much luck.

MyDVD doesn't support many features with imported source files, DVDLab doesn't have AC-3 and I had trouble burning with TMPGAuthor. MovieFactory 2 works great, but it's too limited and I've outgrown it.

Thanks again!
