Hello,

This is a really strange problem but I really don't think I'm the only one who's ever experienced it...

When I'm editing a video clip in 4:3 everything is fine. The clip fills up the whole preview window as it should. And then after some time, after a process of opening and closing my project file about 15-20 times, the preview window shows a border or frame around my video. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is because I have titles in my video and they all shift when this happens! Which is frustrating because if I'm still editing the video and I make a title to fit the "shrunk screen" it no longer fits the final rendered project.

My clip is in the main video track, not in an overlay track. I have not distorted my clip in any way or changed my project settings in any way.

Does anyone know the answer to my problem? Is there something I'm missing? I am a user of VS11.5-Plus and in VS12 and this occurs in both versions.

Hello!

Does anyone know how to change your project back to the dimensions of 4:3 when it gets changed to 16:9?

Because after I posted this morning, I realized that there was more to my problem. Certain things trigger my ¡§project shrinking.¡¨

When I¡¦m editing any 4:3 file (I used some test clips that come with Ulead) my project immediately becomes 16:9 when I do the following:

1. Finish editing clip
2. Go to Share => Create Video File => Select any option (Same as first clip; WMV, Any form of .avi; ― anything besides .mpeg)
3. Press Cancel before beginning to render anything
4. Click the Dolby Digital Surround Sound Icon

And IMMEDIATELY the project changes. Here are some snapshot examples:

I¡¦m totally safe if I choose any form of .mpeg and cancel, but all other file formats combined with the Dolby icon will cause my project to become 16:9. And this change cannot be reversed back to 4:3 by a simple Ctrl + Z or Undo command. You actually have to start from the beginning: File => New.

Now is this a bug or an oversight on my part? Is there a command to change the project preview back to 4:3? To my knowledge it is only the preview that is incorrect. When I render out the file, the finished file is in the normal 4:3 dimensions.

Your images in the following posts clearly show the clips in the overlay track 1.

Right click a clip and select properties what are they?
Do this for all clips.............
Go to File- Project Properties, What are they?
Go to File Preferences, what is the background colour, shown in the lower panel????

Two things that I can think of:

When you first start VS there is little check box marked "16:9" in the first splash screen, make sure that is unchecked if intend working in 4:3

Also...check your project settings and make sure it too is set for 4:3

The point I was trying to make with my snapshots was not about the overlay track. I was pointing out how everything changes, including the overlay track. If you look at the new picture I'm posting you can notice the change in dimensions:

Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)

In my project preference, my background color is black.

And I don¡¦t have the 16:9 box checked.
