I contacted Corel Support about the blips problems with AVCHD editing (crossovers and text). Plse find hereunder what they answered:

Dear andre,
After carefully reviewing this incident it is recommended that you call into our technical support center for further assistance. E-mail is an alternative option for technical support on resolving minor issues. Due to the nature of this particular issue, and the need for interaction, contacting Corel directly via telephone will provide you with a quicker and more tailored solution for the issue you are facing.
Please Note: A fee per support incident may apply when calling. For information on pricing and contact information, please visit:

If I would be shure that they could give a relevant answer, I would contact them, but I doubt...

I am afraid I agree. The problem is obviously now a 'bug' in the accepted sense -- widespread occurrence, and all attributable to the program (not to mention the fact that I too experience it -- and on my past performance, I am someone who chides others when they use the term 'bug' too freely!  )

Nothing that they can say over the phone, or for that matter, by email, is going to correct this problem. That will need a proper patch...

I too reported the problem with blips when using transitions and titles. I clearly explained the problem, but today received this non-relevant reply:

Dear Dale,

Thank you for your e-mail. I recommed you to use SMART PROXY when editing your AVCHD files. By doing so, you generate Proxy files which are lower resolution working copies of video files. They are reduced in resolution or compression bit rate for only one reason --to speed up editing of high-definition video source files.

STEP 1: Enable Smart Proxy:

1. Click on File, then Preferences.
2. Click on the 5th Tab that says Smart Proxy?
3. Click on the Enable Smart Proxy checkbox.
4. Click on Template.?
5. Choose a lower video proxy option, in this project I chose: NTSC MPEG1 (352x240, 29.97 fps)
6. Click Ok.

STEP 2: Import a high-definition video file you wish to edit. Wait until the Smart Proxy finishes creating the proxy video. Notice that this should be a relatively smaller file type as it is now a Proxy Video File and should be edited easily.

I plan to follow up using their facility to update the problem report. However I fear that their next step will be to tell me I have to report the problem via phone support, which means paying them $15 to report their program bug when I (and others) have already reported it via e-mail.

For another problem I had reported, I just received the same e-mail erdna got that said I need to call them to report the problem via telephone. I agree that some problems are better handled via direct phone interaction. But if the problem turns out to be a program bug, I don't think they should charge the $15 (maybe they don't). Actually I would gladly pay the money, even if it is their bug, if it led to a patch in the near-future.

Video Studio Pro X2 Ultimate

I have posed a number of questions to Corel about the software, which does not seem to be working properly, followed by ba chaser, but they decline to reply. The email is just marked "Closed" as soon as it is sent. The questions were:

1.I have downloaded the further 3 applications. I noticed that during the download and installation (and on your website) the application screen for Pro X2 Ultimate is different from Pro X2 - cyclist instead of canoeist. However, having downloaded and I believe activated the product I do not get the new cyclist screeen and there is no mention of 'Ultimate'. I do not get any activation prompts.

2. I was left with a zip file which I unzipped, but the unzipped folder just sits on my desk-top with no indication of where it belongs.

3. Where is the advertized instruction documentation for the new Ultimate product?

4. The Steinberg Wave-Lab application does not seem to be integrated at all with Pro X2. Is this right? It seems to be doing less than my existing Cubase product.

5. Although my Q6600 + 2 GB processor is never more than 26% loaded, project replay is exceptionally jerky/stuttering.
