 Hi all, I recently downloaded the trial of VS Pro X2 and I have connected my Sony Digital 8 Camcorder through USB to my PC, I can record video but I'm unable to get any sound, is there a way to change the Audio source so that it will recognize the audio coming from the USB cable. I use other types of software i.e. ( vegas movie studio) to capture my videos from y Camcorder and I don't have any problem with them. Your help is appreciated. :?:

Hi Jacob, and welcome to the Forums!

I am not sure why you are using the USB connection. That will give you only at best a low quality streaming sort of video quality. The beauty of the Digital 8 (I have one in my collection -- DCR-TRV480E) is that it connects via Firewire, which gives the highest quality video in DV format.

That being said, I have no idea why X2 cannot capture audio via USB. However, what kind of video are you playing in the camera? Is it a digital video filmed with the camera itself? Or is it an analogue Hi8 or 8mm tape? Or have you got an analogue camera or VCR connected via AV to the Digital 9?

If it is either of the latter two, then X2 seems to have a problem with the Digital 8, particularly when using the Firewire connection. And it could be that this has partially spilled over into USB captures as well.

All I can suggest is that you capture using Sony Movie Studio -- though definitely you should be using Firewire for that too!! -- and open the captured files in VS for testing. But since I don't work for Corel, I have absolutely no idea if they will correct the fault...

I've discovered that VS12 will not allow:
  1. Analog 8 tape placed in a Digital-8 camcorder
  2. Pass-through conversion using my Digital-8, connected to a VCR.
In fact it seems that installing VS12 broke the ability in VS11+ to capture using Pass-through. VS10+ is still able to do this, so I'm guessing that VS12 replaces the capture plug-in that is used also by VS11+.

The camcorder is connected to my PC with Firewire. So it would seem that we're back to square-1 when VS11 was first released. It seems that Corel can not manage to keep it's fixes/patches from one version to the next...

:D Thanks Ken and Vidoman for your quick reply.

I'm using a HI8 mm that I recorded on my Sony DCR TRV350 connected to my pc via usb to mini-usb.

From reading the post at this site I believe that I will buy a firewire card as suggested. If I understood your answers correctly, it seems that VS Pro X2 has trouble either with Firewire or USB connection using my Digital 8 camcorder, should I try then an earlier version of VS?

I would invest in a firewire card/cable, and then if you have VS10+ use it to capture, or better yet a free DV transfer utility called WinDV. It works with Firewire only, and captures DV. Several of us use it over VS or MSP capture.
