reset mark-in and mark-out
I am trying to get back to the "split by scene" after spliting and editing a video, but I get a message box saying that "You must reset the mark-in and mark-out positions to their default positions..." How do I reset them? I am trying to merge clips to make it easier to insert chapters into the video.

Hi
Once you start to edit your video clip, remove frames either by Multi trim or the scissors, Split by Scene is disabled.
You can only use split by scene from a full clip.
"You must reset the mark-in and mark-out positions to their default positions
Means you must replace the cut removed frames.
You could of course place your full clip into the library, a new empty page may be best.
Apply split by scene to this clip, the individual clips will be placed in the library.

Yes Split by Scene does work.
There are two ways to split by scene,
If you capture via firewire to DV format, then ¡¥Split by Scene¡¦ can be selected.
The scenes being captured as separate files saved to the working folder. A thumbnail / clip of each being placed in the timeline / library.
Otherwise
If you have a compatible Mpeg or Dv-Avi file then you should be able to ¡¥Split by Scene¡¦ from the timeline or library.
The resultant clips are just virtual clips placed in the library or timeline, the original video file on the hard drive is intact.
Split by Scene using this method creates virtual clips. Just like using ¡¥multi trim¡¦ or the scissors.
AFAIK The Video file has to be the correct type. A ¡¥project compatible¡¦ file, an Mpeg 2 file. A DV-Avi.
The properties of the Mpeg 2 files I use, can be used to edit the ¡¥Project Properties¡¦ That is I can match my project to the video file, if you can do that then you should be able to ¡¥Split by Scene¡¦
What are the properties if your video file???????????????????????????

Re: reset mark-in and mark-out
Hmmm, that didn't work for me but this did. Using VideoStudio 2022. To remove my own splits I had to double click on the thumbnail in the upper right pane. That brings up the Single Clip Trim window. That's where you move the trim points to the out extremes. Then, if that doesn't edit what is on the timeline, then drag the thumbnail for that clip to replace whatever is there on the timeline. Then you are good-to-go for split-by-scene.
