MSP 7 SP 3 not recognizing dual-head configuration

Post by pennstat »

I have a GeForce 2 MX 400 installed with dual-head configuration. The main display is my monitor; the second is my TV. I want to have the Preview material go to the TV instead of (or in addition to) the Preview window; however, MSP 7 SP 3 is not recognizing any external device other than my DV camcorder, even though the on-line help says that I should have a dual-view option.

I have ForceWare v71.84 w/ DualView installed, but I did not have DualView installed when I installed MSP. The system has been rebooted since the change. I'm using Windows 2000 SP 4.

Any ideas why MSP is not recognizing the dual-head configuration? More importantly, any ideas on how to correct the issue?

:?: not sure about this particular one, but many of the so called "dual head" adapters on the market these days are in fact not dual head. They allow to spread the desktop of your PC over two displays. That is not the same as a true dual head device like Matrox etc.

If MSP does not recognize it as a dual head, it most likely isn't.

Precisely. In my experience the best multi-head adapters are by Matrox and ATI. My preference are the Matrox Parhelia and the cheaper P-750, both of which offer triple displays.

These cards let me span all 3 displays with one huge timeline OR use a spanned dual display + TV out (DVDMAX) configuration OR use a single display for the timeline, the second for an effect control and the third for a TV preview.

VERY nice for editing.

Fair enough. I do remember bot my old ATI and Matrox cards automatically dumping things like DVD playback to the TV. Oh, well. It's not enough of an issue to really justify buying a new card, though. :)

:D You could also output the preview to the camcorder and connect that one with the AV out to a TV. Works well, I tried it. :)
