Well, the patch worked. I went back and re-rendered a project that I had saved in mp4 format and saved as an flv. The quality is not as good as the mp4.

It rendered without stuttering or stopping. The original clips were in .mov format and I used the automusic feature.

The flv file is 19.4 mb and the mp4 is 28 mb.

ETA: I was not able to view the flv file either. My render box showed the initials FLV in 200 pt type.

Is there a specific reason why you want to use the FLV format?
If you are rendering for youtube simply stick to either MPEG4 or DivX instead.

I was able to create some FLV's last week, haven't tried again. But what I don't understand is how there could be something wrong with the source material if I created the mpg using VS. That worked just fine, but it's creating the FLV that causes VS to choke.

Only because it was a new option with the upgrade. It wasn't available in VS11. I just wanted to see if there was a difference in quality and was disappointed when the flv render choked. Now that I've seen it, I will just stick with the mp4. I think that format was a bit better but it was nice to finally see the flv. Thank you.
