i have tried to install video studeo 9 demo but when installing it asks to locate layout.bin does anyone know where i can get this file.

Sorry that I am not able to give you a real answer, however until some one who actually knows the answer replies, this may help.
Performing a search on my HD, I found a number of occurrences of this file. It appears to be a temporary file created in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp\ and then under a folder or two.
I would recommend that you attempt the installation logged in as Windows as local administrator (if you have not already?).
Please let us know a little more information about your PC and the software you currently have (like Operation System type and any other Video software that you may have installed.
