No sound on my video clips - is this a codec problem?

Recently, for no apparent reason, my avi and MPEG video files in Vista stopped playing audio. I first noticed it in Ulead VS11, I then tried to play them in Windows Media Player and DivX player and still no sound.

When you play them in Windows Media Player, it tells you there is a codec missing (C00D10D1) but I am sent on a wild goose chase. I have tried installing K-Lite and the Windows Vista Codec Pack but neither solve the problem.

All these files played fine with audio up until recently and I can still play MP3 and Windows system sounds and DVDs. I have also recently learned that both Quicktime and Winamp will play them with sound and if I go over to my wife's profile, they play fine there on Windows Media Player.

I used GSpot to identify a problem but all it says is that it uses PCM Audio and no Codec is necessary.

Going back to Ulead Video Studio 11 - I found that when playing the entire Project (as opposed to just the video clip) I also hear sound.

The problem of course is that without the video audio on the clips, I cannot edit at the moment and it is very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have an answer for you, but you might want to read about codec packs: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=29725

Thanks, but that topic is useless as it doesn't specify which codec packs cause these issues and besides, I have already tried uninstalling the packs - doesn't work.

Thanks for your reply, I'll wait for others.

Hi

Just done a search for C00D10D1, seems as though its related to Digital Dolby.

VS 11 supports Digital Dolby and it should work. (as does latest WM player as far as I know.)
From Video Studio are you able to set the Create Video File options to use DD????????

Maybe a clean install of Video Studio is on the cards.
Are you using the latest version of WM player.??????

You can use a AC3 filter that allows de-coding digital dolby, only allows you to play DD. Not Re-Code

http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_ ... =ac3filter
If that works then you know your moving in the right direction.

Hi Trevor, thanks very much for your reply.

In answer to your first question, yes, I can select DD in the Create Video File options.

Regarding the AC3 Filter - I had already tried this but downloaded and installed again - still no luck.

I am not so sure reinstalling Ulead will resolve the issue as the problem occurs also in WMP.

I'll work on DD being the issue though, thanks.
