Strange VideoStudio promotion pricing...

Just curious...did anyone else receive the email today from Corel advertising the special 5 day promotion where one can purchase VideoStudio Pro X2 for the special price of $49.95 (upgrade/box)? Shame on me for responding to their exciting new-product roll-out price of $59.95 (upgrade/box) just a month ago. I guess I could have saved $10 by waiting! Strange marketing strategy...

Well you might find that strange, but I find even more strange and potentially annoying the fact that they charge widely different prices for the same package in different parts of the world. Moreover, the difference in price bears absolutely no relation as far as I can see to exchange rate variations. It seems to be more a case of what they think a particular market might be willing to bear...

I have mentioned this before to Corel and found that different regions of the world have different marketing managers. It is up to each individual marketing manager to decide pricing and availability of products for their own individual region.

Hence you not only get different prices you also get a variation of what products are available. For instance the UK still only offers DVD MovieFactory 6 / 6+ for sale whilst some areas have had DMF7 for a few months. Some areas will offer the download (ESD) versions at a different price to the boxed version whilst other regions the price could be the same.

Regarding discounts, this is normal practice that every now and then a special offer price is made available. To take full advantage of special offers it is good practise to subscribe to the Free Newsletters because these often contain discounts.

Going back to my Pinnacle days it was their policy to charge way over the top for their products sold in Australia. Probably still is. You could buy way cheaper out of Singapore, but Pinnacle would not let Singapore ship to Australia. I know this because a group of us tried it on and Pinnacle blocked it. Pinnacle maintained that sales in Oz were not that great compared to say the U.S.A. and Europe so felt that charging more was okay. We in Oz are apparently at the *** end of the world. This ploy is used by Microsoft, Lotus and others.

Re. Steve's posting above.

The price here was not set by Pinnacles Aussie agent (Pineapple Head at the time). This was set by Pinnacle head office. Interesting though that individual Corel managers set the going rate.
