I have been editing my first wedding with VS X2 and have just got to the point where I create chapters in the disc creation stage but I am unable to add chapter points. The option is greyed out. Auto add chapter is the only option. I also cannot play the video. Interestingly, in the timeline at the bottom of this screen, it shows the video as being 0:00:00 in length.
I am also unable to play the video in the first screen of the disc creation tool where you would add extra video files, project files, digital media or import from a mobile device. In this first screen, the video shows up as being 4.88 (5.24GB) in size and 1 hr 23 mins and 56 secs in length.
This happens when I go to create disc from finished MPEG file or straight from the project. I have also tested with several different video but they are all the same. Any ideas?

First, to manually insert chapter points, you have to manually drag the pointer below the preview screen on the Chapter page to the right, and the control should become active.

Are you burning to a double layer disc or an ISO disc image or DVD folder? If not, then obviously that file size reading is too big for a single layer disc. And I would not recommend using the VS 'reduce to fit' option. It is not very good. Rather, I would produce a DVD folder on the final page and use Shrink on that.

Next, your preview problem and the curious 0 length. The only thing I can think of is to suggest, as I usually do with this sort of problem in the burning module, that you go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated August 2008 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular -- and probably now also in X2 -- which appear linked to Windows updates. The menu preview , 'building preview graph' and other problems in the burning module seem to be amongst them.

Note that DirectX is not included in the usual pattern of Windows automatic updates. It has to be done every so often by the user manually. So unless you have recently done this, you are probably still using the original, non-updated version of DirectX which came with your computer.
