What happend to posting: Genuine VS X2 ??

Post by janjatul »

What happend to the posting about a vendor selling downloads for genuine VS X2? Was it a scam?

If so what is the advice for the folks who fell for it?

Hmmm... I don't know. Probably like you already did, I went back through several pages, and couldn't see it. It was titled something like 'X2 for $44.95'. So I did a search, first for $44 and then for 'Shop N Roll' which is the place which was selling it. But no results were returned at all. Nada -- which is strange since normally the Search engine on this Board returns a million returns for just about any search!

Anyway, IIRC, at least two, possibly three or more, users reported buying it and installing it with no problems. One had no problems at all, but at least two reported having trouble registering it. Steve Jones (sjj1805) reported that Corel has having trouble with aspects of its program registration system more generally. One user contacted Corel direct and they either registered it for him or else said it was already registered to his name.

There was a discussion by others about the dangers of taking up such offers and from that particular seller (Shop N Roll). My only contribution was to say that I have bought two separate programs from them (not Video Studio though) and had no problem activating or registering them. One was Nero 8 and the other PowerDVD 8. Nero 8 is particularly sensitive about getting activation right, so all I can say is that all the information Shop N Roll sent me for those programs at least was genuine.

I too was looking forward to reading further input on that particular thread but can only presume it was pulled by Corel. If this was the case it would be polite if Corel were to say why.

Fair enough if it was a scam then advice should be given. If on the other hand it was genuine, does Corel fear the competition and want to price fix?

Finally will this thread be pulled?

Normally, any 'pulling' would be done by one of us Site Admin or Moderators, who are not Corel employees. And the one who pulled it would normally inform others. But it would be unusual in that case since it was an informative post... So I remain mystified why it disappeared.

I too am mystified as to where it went. I thought at first it may have been a little unethical. However the retailer seemed legitimate, so I left it alone.

Update from one ShopNRoll VSPx2 purchaser

Post by Thomaswick1 »

Recap: before the original thread disappeared, I reported the purchase of 'Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 - retail' from ShopNRoll for $44.95 paid through PayPal; the successful installation (after uninstalling trial version); and the failure to get Corel to register it (via the online registration choice in the Help dialog box) receiving an error message in red declaring that either the serial number is incorrect or it is a legacy program whose support has been withdrawn.

Subsequently: contacted ShopNRoll through 'service ticket' and requested a valid License Key; they replied asking for screen shot in email to 'Support' ; took screen shots while replicating registration failure and sent them as requested.

Day and a half after getting the screen shots, they issued a replacement License Key. Uninstalled and successfully reinstalled with new Key. Registration failed in the exact same manner. Posted result to 'Ticket' and sent screen shots to 'Support'.

Current status: waiting for reply (2 1/2 days); problem continues -- replicated earlier this evening.

Will watch this thread for any news on what's wrong and how to fix

ps - disappearance of thread is disturbing...

Corel have problems with their Registration Database and are working on a fix.

Been there, done that.

$44.95 VSPx2 purchase to be refunded

Post by Thomaswick1 »

in reply to the second license key's registration failure, Shop'NRoll suggested there might be a problem Corel's license servers which prevents solving my problem.

As a result, they stated that they will issue a full refund. At this point I feel ShopNRoll has acted responsibly, and Corel has let both of us down

Does anyone else have, and want to share, their experience with this 'deal' from ShopNroll?

As already reported in the thread which has disappeared, I could buy, pay, download and install VS Pro X2 without any issue. So for me, this is a great deal ! :D

On-line registration, however, failed, but this seems to be an issue with Corel and not with ShopNroll.

Anyone managed to register?

Has anyone who downloaded this version managed to register the program?
If no-one has managed to register maybe it is not Corel.

Well, that could be the case too. But Corel has definitely indicated they are having trouble at their end registering certain programs, and that is not just limited to X2... As indicated above, I am a 'victim' with two other programs of theirs which I bought directly from them, not some third party. So I still tend to believe it is their problem, not Shop N Roll's...

When you downloaded VSProX2 did you just get the basic 170 or so Mb file or were you given links to the two bonus packs as well ?

When I try that link, it gives me a blank page -- and I tried it in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome...

I think there is an error in the link. When you try http://corel.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/corel ... qid=763353, however, (with a forward slash between enduser and std) it takes you to a page -- although it is just the one which says they are having trouble registering, and to try again later.
