VS-X12 No Sound When playing project or clip

There is no sound when playing UNLESS the volume is different from 100 either in timeline or storyboard. I did not have this problem in previous versions. Sound is definitely not muted. Unless I change volume level or go through Audio View there is total silence. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Since this is only happening in Ver 12 Not in 11.5 or any other version, it really does not matter what the computer configuration is. However the problem is identical for any video type format with sound including avi, mpeg, etc. It seems to be within Ver 12 and "repair" did not solve it.

Additional Information. When volume set at default 100 ERROR : Unable to play the file 16804:2:1. When volume set to anything else NO PROBLEM. This is about trying to play one of the sounds that came along with X2. The problem is the same no matter what the type of video/sound is played.
