no capture driver available in the system
I get the following error message when attempting to straight capture to disk. "no capture driver available in the system". I'm using the trial version, version 6. Windows XP, SP2. Capturing from a Sony Hi8 Handycam (CCD-TRV308). Thanks. -Steve
How are you connected to your computer?
Except for MiniDV cameras connected via Firewire, digital capture is "hit or miss", and you might have to use the capture software that came with your camera (if any). Do you have the owner's manual and the software that came with it?
I don't know if what I found is true, but I did some quick-research and your camera may have a USB port that's only good for transferring still images.
If that's true, you need an analog capture card/device. When you get, or if you already have, an analog capture device, you'll need to use the capture software that came with the device. Once you have a digital file on your hard drive, you can use Movie Factory to make a DVD.
For more information about capture & capture devices:
ATI/AMD (All-In-Wonder Video + Video Capture cards, etc.)

(And, beware of cheap capture devices.)

I'm, having "same" problem: trying to work with Ulead DVD Movie Factory 6 and miniDV Canon MV700 via firewire but when I try to use camera with this software I get the message that I don't have the video capture driver installed. Had spoke with Canon in Portugal and they say this driver is "on-camera". Had asked them too for software CD's and they say the only CD that came with this camera has ZoomBrowser but I don't need it for what I intend to do.
I want to "transfer" video from this camera to software and edit it.
Anyone here can help me with these questions?
thanks
PauloT

I don't know what's causing your problem, but you might try WinDV. It's FREE, has a good reputation, and lots of people use it for MiniDV "capture".

Some older cams have problems with the updated firewire firmware of later Windows versions, where MS decided to become more compliant with the standards, but the manufacturers who weren't then hit problems. This was particualrly so with some Canon Models, in PAL.
What OS are you using?
