Has anyone ever got an error when opening an image to Ulead VS 11 that says: The parameter is incorrect.

I am just trying to bring into the program some jpg's to put in a movie and it freezes the program and gives that error. I have to hit cntl/alt/del and stop Ulead and reopen. If I change the photo to bmp from jpg, it seems to bring it in ok (but then the file is huge).

Hi tiger_vision...

I'm going to assume here that you're using Vista? "The Parameter is Incorrect" seems to be a fairly generic error that crops under Vista, especially Vista Home - usually when there are problems accessing either the system registry, or a particular device driver.

I have had the same error message when trying to capture some old VHS video using a consumer-grade capture card.

Option 1 is to try running VS11 as an administrator (right click on the VS icon, select "Run As Administrator")

Option 2 is to upgrade to Vista Enterprise ( I run two identical machines, one on Vista home which is a pain in the :!: and one on Vista Enterprise that behaves perfectly). Must get round to upgrading!!

Option 3 is to throw away Vista and go back to good ole' XP!!!

Option 4 is to turn off the Vista account protection cr@p - assuming you're either not connected ot the big bad Internet and/or are suitably firewalled & vigilant!

...unless anyone else has any better ideas, of course.

hope this help,

Zippy!

... it is a regular JPEG and not a JPEG 2000 image is it!?!? Don't know if VS will handle JPEG 2000?

So far I've never seen this error. I just ran a quick test, using images saved as any of the JPEG formats, including progressive. VS opened them without problems.

Where did your images originate? Are you perhaps using a Toshiba laptop? Steve has noted having problems opening JPEG images with Toshiba laptops.

Thanks for the reply. I should have been more specific.

I am actually using XP SP2! Not vista!

The photos 'in question' were emailed to me. However, they open fine in XP windows viewer.

Something is seriously screwed up with my VS11. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and still the problem occurs. I did spyware and registry clean up and still the problems occurs.

I am stuck. Very fustrating.

Anyways. Thanks.

If you can open them in a picture viewer can you also open them in a photo editing application. If so, try resaving them and see if that "fixes" them.

And the fact that you can convert them successfully to BMPs answers Black Lab's suggestion... You needn't worry about the size of the BMPs either -- that doesn't affect the end size of your video as the still images are converted to video anyway, and that conversion will produce the same size file if it uses the same DVD properties, regardless of whether the images are jpeg or bmp...

XP - Hmmm, I spend all day every day in front of PCs (work, not pleasure!), and have never seen that error under XP.

I think I'd simply echo the posts of others - try opening the file(s) in another app, and resaving them... although I'd still be suspicious of JPEG 2000 (.jp2) format??
