And, their program would cost a LOT more than Video Studio. I got the trial version of VS6 several years ago and looked around frantically for other programs before purchasing it. Everything that I looked at either didn't do what I wanted or was so expensive that I couldn't even think about buying it. I have been very happy with VideoStudio.

Hi,
I teach a range of software - Avid, Adobe, Canopus, and Ulead. The students range from editors who work in network TV and filmmaking to 7th grade teachers.
VS9 is really pretty cool for what it can do and how one can use it.
A lot of shows are cut in an NLE, then finished in another program.
Ulead's plugin capability exists in VS9. I cut, then use Boris FX7 (it is plugged in to VS9) for sophisticate color correction, multiple composite work and more).
VS9 has VST support, too. These audio plugins can do just about any audio tweaking anyone would ever want.
It also supports 32-bit files with alpha channel. Something that can be very useful as you get around in NLE video.
VS9 is something that a budding video artist can get his/her arms around and start producing right away - something few NLEs really offer.
Do videomaking professionals use it? Some do, but not many. However there are lot of professionals who need and want to do some video use it all the time.

MikeGunter,
Can you explain Boris FX7 and how to use it in UVS9 a in a bit more detail?
I have some analogue video which has interference like Free to Air TV when you have large power lines in your area. Bright dashes on the screen. I have seen profession TV Studio equipment that can do this. Do you know of a "Video filter" or such that can do this? Mayge Boris FX7 can?
I had not realised the implication of being able to imort filters, I had though we could only use what Ulead had provided with the package.
Thanks,
George.

Hi George,GeorgeK wrote:

Big question.
Boris is a plug in that costs several times the cost of VS9. It is used by major production houses to composite video (make many layers of content into a single output stream), make special effects such as chromakey, and use complex mattes (masks to cut out pieces of the the screen).
There are other tools that plugin, too. Just about any thing that MediaStudioPro can use, VS9 can use, too.
