Capture

Post by susiepops »

Until recently I was capturing from tape to PC using a firewire with VideoStudio8. I have acquired a new Panasonic which connects by USB. Although I can capture using the software which came with the camcorder Studiovideo8 fails. I receive the following error message' Unable to switch to capture mode. Check if your video capture driver is working properly. Cannot preview.' I am using WindowsXPS2

Can anyone help please?

Try connecting your new Panasonic to your PC by Firewire and using the same procedure you succesfully used before

Thanks. I wasn't sure whether using the firewire would be a problem for either the PC or the camcorder. Sounds niaive I suppose but once a novice always a novice. Videoing is fairly new to me so I was hesistant in taking steps into the unknown.

This won't be much help... But, you may have to use the software that came with the camera for "capture". You can still use Video Studio for editing.

The drivers for video cameras don't seem to be as standardized as more common hardware (i.e. printers). A driver is software that's works like an adapter, or an interpreter. It allows communication between the hardware and the application, or between the hardware and the operating system.
