Unable to install VS X12 due to abov error. Windows installer is definitely not the issue as I can install any other program. Does antyone know the fix for this bug in VS X12?

It is not a 'bug' in VS -- to be a bug, the problem has to be widespread and replicable. So far, however, you are the only one to report it.

Moreover, if you did a Google search using the error message as the target, you will get 5470 response relating to a variety of programs. It is a Windows problem, apparently, relating to XP. And Microsoft have an entry in their knowledge base about it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346/en-us

Actually I will have to disagree since, as I mentioned, with the exception of VS-X12 there is no problem whatsoever with installing any other program using the installer which came with XP-SP3. Also, if you notice, on the Pro CD there is an installer patch which was not put there just by accident. And, of course, the patch did not do any help. THE SOLUTION is to download and install Windows Installer 4.5 and that will do the trick.

I will have to mention that Installing ver 4.5 (Windows Installer) may not have been the actual solution in as much as it did it for me. It may very well be that the Windows Installer may have to be unregistered and registered again as follows:
1. Log on to your computer as an administrator.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
4. At the command prompt, type msiexec.exe /unregister, and then press ENTER.
5. Type msiexec /regserver, and then press ENTER.

I hope this helps people who will encounter the same problem I did. Again, the only time that I had this problem was when I attempted to intall VS-X2.
