Welcome to the forums,
If you insert an animated GIF into the timeline using the Insert Image then VS will only use the first frame. However inserting an animated GIF into the timeline using the Insert Video, VS will play all the frames of the animated GIF file...

unfortunately, the error i get is, "misbatch error." i browsed around the forum and saw that others were experiencing the same problem. apparently, someone said that the newer versions of videostudio doesn't support .gifs in the video format, anymore.
gif animator is not an option
so, my question is, which version of videostudio support .gifs in the video format, or is there a plug-in?

I would add to Steve's inquiry of which OS, what version of VS are you attempting to add animated GIFs to?
Currently on my laptop, running Vista Home Premium, I have VS10+, 11.5+ and VS Pro X2 installed. Of those VS10+ with the Vista Patch will not allow animated GIFs. VS11 and 12 (Pro X2) do. Also please note that VS10+ being run on an XP machine does allow animated GIF files.
