Capturing from Sony HDR HC3E after Vista SP1 !

I captured an entire Sony HDV cassete`s content with my Sony HDR HC3E
back in March 2008, using VS 11.5 Plus with no problem. Afterwards, I
chose to install SP 1 on my Vista 32bit system. In Audgust, I attempted to capture into the program another tape`s footage, and to my surprise the
"Capture Video" icon is grayed out, although VS 11.5 recognizes my ca-
mera. There is a "IVI Capture plug-in" as the ONLY choice, in the dialog
box. Can anyone figure out what`s the issue here ? Thanks !

The IVI capture plugin is and was the only capture Plugin after VS 10 so that hasn't changed from the time when you were successfully capturing.
So, logically speaking the culprit looks to be SP1.
Try rolling back you computer to a time prior to the update and see what happens.
Also, just as an afterthought, recently a slew of glitches in VS have been traced to the Microsoft DirectX updates. DirectX is updated regularly but Microsoft have not been changing the version numbers so the latest is date in Aug this year. Also as DirectX is not part of the usual Windows update service they manage to keep it a secret very well! Worth a try!

Groan Vista Service pack 1.
Although It installed perfectly on 3 of my computers, when I did my wife's laptop some of her "Bingo" programs began playing up and she got a bit angry
I used system Restore to quickly remove the Service pack and everything worked OK again. I then downloaded the stand alone version of Service Pack 1 and installed it again. This time it went without a hitch and there were no more problems with it.

I have also learned not to mess with the wife's games!

Thank you guys for the replies. I sure as hell am not going to uninstall
Service Pack 1 (the standalone .exe all 434 MBs of it) from Vista.
I am intrigued though, by your mentioning of Direct X the latest version of which I have downloaded but forgot to install AFTER formatting my
C drive and reinstalling everything from scratch ! "Goodness gracious"
-as my beloved British say-could this be the answer that solves the my-
stery ? From northern Greece I wish everybody a trouble-free winter
