optimal settings to capture Video
Hello,
I am currently trying to capture video from my Tivo using S-video input and ULEAD 7 and then to take that file and put on DVD. What are the optimal settings I should be using? Ie (Bitrate) My first attempt, there was alot of pixelation
Thanks

read the Thread
I read the thread and I was looking more for ULEAD 7 settings under the Cature Video settings
What card?
what card are you using to make the captures? There might be a limitation on the card's capabilities...

USB 1.1 or 2.0?
Are you connected through USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 directly to your computer?
Use the CapWiz program that shipped with the unit (instead of VS7). It has an easier interface, and good capture templates to get you started.
Make sure you select the source as S-Video, and then use one of the radio buttons for capture bitrate (up to 9mbps in a template I believe if you are using USB 2.0 connections). The unit will capture higher, but the radio buttons have 9mbps as the highest -- which I think will be overkill for your source. You could try the 6mbps for starters.

I thought you had to re-encode it to play on a regular DVD player?Merlin wrote:Also make sure you do not let Video Studio 7 reencode your video. After all you are capturing to a compiant dvd spec in mpeg2, (You are right?) There should be no need to reecode. Reencoding takes a long time and defeats the purpose of capturing in mpeg2 in the first place.
If you capture compliant files...
The ADS Instant DVD 2.0 captures DVD Compliant mpeg videos, so you can just use them in your Authoring application, and tell it to NOT re-encode your videos (i.e. use them "asis").

The idea is to capture with the CapWiz software but then to import it into VS 7 for editing. And to make sure that it is not re-encoded, then in the VS7 burning module window you click on the little icon in the bottom left hand corner with the blue tick on it and make sure the box in that which says 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' is checked. (The icon in versions 8 and 9 has changed to a cogwheel.)
