Created project; created dvd; clips omitted from dvd

FWIW, you didn't answer the following questions from Randazzo:

1) Does the DVD disc play completely on your pc when inserted in the DVD drive?

2) BTW. You didn't incidently change the trim handles in the burning module from Videostudio? It's right under the preview window after opening the "share > create disc" sequence.

To answer question #1 would be especially helpful.

However, I see you did say "when the DVD is played back in DVD player, the video abruptly ends at about clip 6 after approx 8 minutes of video." Is that in a set-top player or the pc's DVD drive?

Thanks Black Lab for spotting that, I was mislead by the above - reading the entire thread.

This means that it is also possible that either the source file(s) might contain corruption which only reveals itself in the burning stage.
Alternatively that a preview range has been selected rather than the entire video.

My advice is that if not already done, burn the "DVD" to a hard drive folder and then use a software player such as WinDVD, PowerDVD, Nero Showtime or even Windows Media Player to check the completed item to make sure that it is working as it should.

This will then narrow down where the problem lies which may be
1. Faulty DVD burner
2. Faulty blank Disc
3. Burning at too fast a burn speed
4. Corrupted clip
5. Preview range selected rather than the entire video.

After reading the post I believe I may have the same problem. The DVD produced works fine when I play it on the PC but if I play it in the DVD player it omits clips. I am using Tesco DVDs so I guess they must be the problem, tomorrow I will buy some more expensive ones and see if I get the same problem!
I tried a DVD+RW and it stopped playing before the end, the DVD+R was better, it didn't stop but it omitted clips.

What burning speed did you use? We normally recommend a fairly low one -- for instance, with my preferred 12x or 8x rated discs, I always burn at no more than 4x. With 16x and 20x, which usually don't give me the 4x option, I use 6x or 8x. The theory is that with a slower speed, the burning laser has a slightly longer time to embed the digital signal more 'firmly' in the disc. That in turn gives it a better chance to be able to be read by a wider range of players.

Thanks Ken, I'll try. I have only just started using VideoStudio so at the moment I just accept all the defaults!
Sharon, am I right to say I have the same problem as you? Have to tried using a slower burning speed?

Sorry guys, I missed some of the posts, thus I didn't answer all the questions entirely.
And as I speak "Southern" most of the time, I'm sometimes hard to understand.

The project plays all clips (project) without interruption when played on the pc (reviewing in VS11 and the MPEG file using Windows Media Player).

I am burning at 4x.

The DVDs I am using are: Office Depot brand DVD-RW and when that didn't work, I purchased some Maxell DVD+R.

I haven't done anything in the preview window (after clicking on Create Disc) except to view the complete project by clicking on the Preview button. Did not adjust the trimmers at all.

I've been trying to edit out "corruptness", but I've eliminated so many clips and portions of clips from my project trying to find the "corrupt" one, that I don't have a lot of video left!!

And it's a really long process to cut out a small portion, burn to dvd and see if it works and then go back and cut out another small portion, burn to dvd and see if it works, etc etc.

I've been needing a new desktop...so I went and purchased a new one with a DVD burner, so I think I'll start from the beginning (clips straight from camera) on the new computer and see what happens. From what you all had said, I made sure that the burner on the new computer would burn down to 4x. Also, I had the new computer loaded NOT with Vista, but with XP. I have Vista on this laptop and I don't particularly like it.

MietteMeg, my project will play through without interruption when I play it in VS thru the preview screen or when I create a MPEG file and play it on the pc via Windows Media Player.

My problem begins when I burn either the project or the MPEG to a DVD. They will not play through completely. They stop in various places and hangs.

And I also forgot to mention in last post....I took some different clips of a previously taken video, from the same camera, and created another different project out of them, then burned to DVD and had the same problem. That project/DVD also stopped abruptly and would not play through to the end.

Good luck to both of us! I think us beginners need all the help we can get!!!

That sounds like a burner or media issue.

Sharon, maybe I don't have the same problem as you after all! I can burn the DVD with the whole project but it just won't play in the DVD player (in one it freezes after a few minutes, in another if omits some clips). I can however play it fine in the PC.

I tried burning a new DVD at the lowest speed possible but it didn't make any difference so tomorrow I am definitely going to buy some new DVDs and try again...

Update....

I have just tried playing the DVD in my son's PS2 and it works fine! There is definitely some sort of incompatibility between the DVD itself and the DVD player...

The DVD's I create will not play on laptop dvd player, my sony dvd player or my granddaugter's dvd player (don't know the brand).

Black Lab, I'm inclined to think that it IS a burner problem. And I'm not sure what you mean by media problem. Are you talking about the blank dvd's I'm using? If so, what brand, type would you recommend? I'm never sure what to get.....+rw, -rw, +r, -r, then what speed....it's all very confusing.

Are they by any chance older models? Most of the newer models can handle any type of disc, but older models could only play +Rs, while others only played -Rs. Interestingly, many of the cheaper models seem to play anything, while the more expensive ones sometimes choke on certain media.

Yes, I was referring to the brand and/or type of media. A reliable, name-brand is your best bet. I think all new burners, as well as all new set-top players, are rated for both +R and -R discs. BTW, I was Verbatim -R printables.

Yes, they are older (cheaper) models.

I've tried something else...

1. In VideoStudio 12: Share / Create Video File / Same as Project Settings. It created an mpg file which I then imported into another video editing software (which I used before but then I started having problems with it when I moved to AVCHD which is why I got Corel VideoStudio X2/ 12). I then created a DVD (from the other video editing software) and it worked fine in my DVD player! I was however concerned that it had lost a bit of quality (even though we couldn't really tell while watching it).

2. In VideoStudio X2/12: Share / Create Disk / DVD / created disk image (iso) but did not burn disk. Then burnt iso (speed x2.4) in my other video editing software. When I tried playing the DVD, again it worked fine on the PC but not on the DVD player.

FWIW, I and many others on this forum, use VS to create the video file, but use other software to actually burn to disc. I use Nero.
