Created project; created dvd; clips omitted from dvd

Here's what I have so far:
1. transferred movies from JVC hare disk camcorder using software that came with camcorder.
2. created project (vsp file) using Movie Wizard: comprised of 22 clips, approx 50 minutes (added title and a snippet of music at the begin and end)
3. created dvd using "Create Disc".
4. DVD-RW 4.7 GB disc used.
5. This takes a while, but the message on the screen said that it was completed successfully.
6. However, when the DVD is played back in DVD player, the video abruptly ends at about clip 6 after approx 8 minutes of video.
7. I tried creating a creating a video file using "Create Video File", saving to hard drive and then burning to DVD. Same thing happened.

This a DVD of my GREAT grandchild's birth and Mom and Dad are waiting with bated breath for me to get them a copy!

You don't say which version of VS you are using. But with the project in the timeline, do you see a heavy red line running along the top of the timeline in the time scale in Project view? If so, you have accidentally set the project length to the length of that red line. And to correct it, you have to pull the trim handles (the black triangular things immediately beneath the blue progress bar under the preview screen, to the far left and right. When you do that, the red line should disappear and the full video should now be processed...

When viewing this video file on your pc are all the clips there?

Am using VS 11 plus: Vers 11.5.0157.2 Plus

Here are the specs on the project file:
File Size 1.6MB
NTSC Drop Fram (29.97 fps)
MPEG Files
24 bits, 720x480
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (mas 8000kbps)
LPCM Audio

There is NO red line (I have project open, with Edit tab, and in Timeline view)

To anwer your question, Randazzo, when viewing MPG file in Windows Media Player, it plays from beg to end in its entirety.
As the VSP does in the preview in VS11.

To see the red line, you have to be in Edit mode, but click on 'Project" immediately below the preview screen...

Are you talking about the choice of Project or Clip?
I have it on Project.
And to clarify, there's the timeline, then below that are the clips in the section called "Video Track". Correct? There is a heavier line between the two, but it is blue in color.

Well, it doesn't sound as though it was that problem. I suggested it because it is a very common problem here when the rendered or burned project is much shorter than the original project would have led the user to believe... Sorry.

I appreciate any suggestions and I'm willing to look at and try anything. I'm very new to this program....only just purchased on Friday night, so I could miss something. But I don't see anything red on this whole screen.

I wish it had of been that!

1) It's hard to figure out what's happening exactly. Does the DVD disc play completely on your pc when inserted in the DVD drive?

If so you could try a lower bit-rate like 7.000. But 8.000 should play fine on most DVD players.

2) BTW. You didn't incidently change the trim handles in the burning module from Videostudio? It's right under the preview window after opening the "share > create disc" sequence.

Perhaps you can burn a new disc making sure the latter didn't happen.

That's not what Ken is referring to. The red line will be running through the numerals of the timeline..

If so, in Timeline view, and Project mode, drag the small triangles (pause-duration handles) back to the far left and right.

I love pictures! Makes it real clear for us beginners. But, no, no red line through the timeline. And no triangles anywhere on the line.
I'm going to try and find another computer that I can put the program on and test the project with another computer and drive. Just to eliminate that it isn't a hardware problem.
Because I tried creating a disc of the project several more times and each time it stopped in approximately the same place, but not exactly in the same place. So it seems to me (and tell me if I'm wrong), but if it was an issue with the project itself, wouldn't it stop at the exact same "frame" each time?

Well, that depends on what the problem is, and we haven't figured that out yet.

If it is time issue, such as a re-setting of the mark in/mark out points, then yes, it should end at the same point.
If it is a corrupt clip, then I would assume it could stop at any point when it gets to that clip.

To see if it is a corrupt clip you may have to do some work. Let's assume your project is called Project A. With Project A in the timeline go to the point in the timeline where things go wrong and delete all the clips after that point. Save As "Project B". Render to a video file. Does it play all the way thru?

Now open Project A again, go to the point where things go wrong and delete all the clips before that point. Save As "Project C". Render to a video file. Does it play all the way thru?

If one does not, do the same procedure of cutting the project in halves until you narrow down to the offending clips.

The OP made an MPEG file which plays fine on her pc. So it's somewhere in the burning process where things go wrong.

For all my limited knowledge, I agree with you, Randazzo. I believe it's in the burning process that has the problem. What I'm attempting to do is find another computer that I can load all of this stuff on and try it on another burner. I have another laptop, but I can't figure out how to get the project file or the mpeg file from this laptop to that one without having to burn it to a dvd. And it seems if the burning on this laptop is the problem, that wouldn't work. I have a portable hard drive at my office that I think I may bring home and do a backup to it and them restore on the other laptop. Anyhow, thanks for all the help. I'll let you know if I ever get it to work and can figure out the problem. I do believe there's a problem with the burning process, just don't know whether it's the VS program or the dvd burner on this computer.

The "DVD" plays find from the hard drive and so the problem is either the burner or the blank disc or possibly the software, though it is unlikely to be the latter.
