Can't capture from DVD

Post by metmot »

I have a DVD that I created using VS 10 a few years back. Now I want to recapture and edit one of the titles and VS11 refuses to do it. I have TWO computers running XP pro and I get identical results. I have successfully imported many other DVD titles into VS11 but for some reason this one won't work even though it originated in VS. I would like to recapture this football clip as it is the only archive copy I have on this DVD.

Here is the sequence of events on both computers.

First I click here:

Then this:

Then this happens as expected:

Which brings up this screen:

As soon as I click on any title as shown this happens:

With this information:

And This:

Can anyone decypher what is going on here? Like I said it happens on both computers I have identically. I tried to capture using a third party program but the quality sucked. I want to re edit this clip off of DVD and post it on you tube now. Help please anyone!!

Thanks,
John

I'm a bit concerned over the FPS being 30 and not 29.97 fps for NTSC TV. However you might try copying the folders (Audio_TS and Video_TS) from the DVD to your hard drive. Then using the Import DVD Folder, see if it still refuses to import the clips.

Another workaround, after copying the folders from the DVD to your PC, change the file extentions from VOB to MPEG. Then just try using Insert Video.

I have experienced a similar problem which was due to a possible corrupt file in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG folder. To correct it I deleted that folder, then reinstalled VS.

Yes, that 30 fps does seem a bit strange. And what seems even stranger is that the original error signature points to an mpeg-4 H.264 video decoder as being the villain -- yet that should only come into play if it is trying to deal with either standard definition mpeg-4 encoded with H.264 or high definition AVCHD which also uses that codec...

metmot -- when you say you are using VS11, which exact version are you using -- vanila VS11? VS11+? Or VS11.5+? If not the latter, then I would apply both the 6 November 2007 update patch and the 8 November Power Pack and see if that makes a difference. They were supposed to give greater flexibility with regard to high def video, but the patch in particular was meant to correct other faults relating specifically to H.264...

Thanks Ron, Ken and Steve

I first looked for duplicate Dll files as per Steve's information and found I have only three copies on this machine. One in the MPEG folder and two in cab files. They are identical files. My other computer has no Ulead products on it besides VS11 Plus (The version I have). This computer has VS9, 10 and 11 as well as Movie factory 5, MSP 8 and a trial of Photoimpact 12 which is expired. So my guess is that isn't the issue.

I imported the DVD folder to my hard drive and used that command with the same results of crashing. I then took Ron's advice and renamed the VOB files MPEG which looked very promising. There was two of them which contained all the video. They played flawlessly in windows media player but......when I inserted the first one in the time line it only appeared as the first 55 seconds of a 17 minute clip. The second one was similar. All 17 minutes will appear on media player. I tried VS 10 just for fun with identical results. I also tried VS10 to import the DVD files for fun and it crashed too. Seems I have opened a new can of worms. I should try to update to 11.5 which I have never done since I never had a problem with 11 plus. Can anyone clue me how to do that. Where is the download links for updating to 11.5. Is it free? I got VS11 as a download upgrade to ten and I think then updated shortly there after to plus but I can't recall for sure. My plan is to buy a full version of 12 as soon as it's available and install it freshly on a new computer I am dreaming of. Hoping that will solve a bunch of my various problems but in the mean while???? I would like to edit this DVD but it will still be here next year or whenever 12 comes finally I guess.

Thanks for the help guys,
John

VSX2 ** IS ** VideoStudio 12

Did you download the copy of H264VDecHPDll.dll from my link and try that one?

To upgrade VS11+ to VS11.5+ you need to instal the following in this order:
Patch 1.
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Update Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/6) 27 MB

Patch 2.
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus Power Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/8 ) 54 MB

I mis understood your instructions in the other thread. I thought I was looking for mis matched files. I downloaded and replaced the file in the MPEG folder with yours and it works perfectly now.

Can't thank you enough!!

I will still hold off on upgrading since I can once again do everything to my hearts content. If VS12 still isn't here by spring I may reconsider.

I am so far out of touch!

I have been super busy this summer and didn't even notice all the discussion here of X2. I guess I treat you guys on this board like Jesus, only come to you when there's a problem.

Thanks for the energy you put into this Steve. This board is a main difference between Corel products and all the others. The other products may be cool but how will you ever know without this kind of support?

Take care
John
