"Not Responding" during rendering process?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, I did a search and could not find this situation. I have a Quad core Q6600 2.4Ghz with 3GB RAM, I use ViseoStudio 11.5 with all the patches/updates applied. I actually de-installed and re-installed it. My problem is this. I have a Canon HV30, i record in HD. I can render to DVD without problems, and I have in the past rendered a short 5 minute test video to HD-DVD witout problems. My problem is consistent with files larger. I have a 1.38 GB file, about 18 minutes and have tried to render it to either HD-DVD or AVCHD, every time(I have tried many, many times) it starts out o.k., and then stops at about 22%. When I do Ctrl+Alt+Del I can see that the program has stopped responding. I have not seen this asked in the forum and I have not received a response from Corel as to a suggestion so I thought I would ask here. Thank-you

First, can you click on the ? in the top right hand of screen, and select 'About Video Studio', and see if the version is 11.5.0157.2 PLUS. If you don't have that exact number, then that could be the reason for your problem.
I don't have the HV30, but I do have the HV20, and I and a variety of other users with this sort of HDV camera have not had the sort of problem you are having... I, for instance, regularly, render both HDV and AVCHD files from it, convert HDV to AVCHD for burning a hybrid disc etc. So the number of your version might be a start in seeing where the problem might be.
If it is not that, then we will need a more complete description of what editing you do to your HDV, and exactly how you go about rendering it either as another HDV file or to AVCHD e.g. what exact properties you use in each case.

Thanks. Yes I just checked again and I do have the same version you quoted. I wonder if my computer is hanging up in the render process because of memory. I have a Quad Core q6600 2.4 with 3GB of RAM. I tried the same file but cut it down in size to about 5 minutes vs. the 15 minutes and it worked. I am going to add another GB of RAM but at this point i'm not sure that will fix it.
My Process..
I just created an HD video with the hv30, 11 minutes long. I did not change any settings on the capture so it was default. Click on TITLE put in a one line title, click on Share; Create Video file; AVCHD; H2.64 (1920X1080) - at this point i'm just trying to render it to the hard drive, i have read that it is quicker that way. That is my process.

I don't think and extra GB of RAM is going to help there. VS has been editing HDV nicely since VS10 (though that version required a special patch for Canon users). That was XP days, which you are still using. And people could handle HDV on an XP machine with only 1 GB of RAM, though 2 GB were better. Your 3 GB is more than enough.
The only other thing I can think of at this stage is that you should go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated August 2008 and can be found at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular which appear linked to Windows updates.
Note also that DirectX is not included in the usual pattern of Windows automatic updates. It has to be done every so often by the user manually. So unless you have recently done this, you are probably still using the original, non-updated version of DirectX which came with your computer.

Thanks Ken. I think I figured this out. I believe the file I had on my HV30 was corrupt somehow. I was able to burn to regular DVD using that file, but everytime I tried to burn it to AVCHD or other HD type output(I have an A2 so I tried to burn to HD DVD also), it would have the issue. I never thought that maybe it was my file, until today. I setup the Camcorder and ran it for 11 minutes of video(11 minutes of my pool), and was able to render it to disc without issue. So the original file that is on my miniDV must have some corruption that would cause it to 'loop' or stop responding when rendering. That is my best guess, anyhow I was sucessful with a new HD file. Thank you for your advice, I will go and check my DirectX also, but I believe I did it last month so I may be already there. Thanks again, this may be a new one for the record.
