Need Advice on Buying Please

Post by pjay »

Hi Guys
I downloaded Cool3d PS 30day trial. And I have to say I was very impressed with what I could create with ease. now Im wanting to buy it but some of the reviews posted at download.com are making me have second thoughts especialy the one posted by rcryniak. I havent had any probs with the proggie so far but would apreciate comments from other users about the program.

I couldnt see any info on what other file types it will open, will it open a ulead gif animator5 file ? i didnt get a chance to try it before the trial expired :x

Is it better to buy the Boxed version Or download ?
However I can't at this moment as its out of stock at uleads uk site
Does the boxed version come with extras Like a manual? :D

Thanks Guys

I would propose you buy the boxed version.
It comes with the help files, updated patches and a printed manual.

If you do a search in these forums, there are people who had to be directed to the correct pages for the help files.

The program works quite well on my rig. From what I have seen, most issues were either outdated drivers or old setups (P2s).

There is also something about a new version coming out, so if I were you, it might be better to wait out and get the latest

Have a nice day!

Sure. Better and they're free. Anim8or and Blender.
Both of the abovementioned programs have various output options that have no problems with Ulead import. If you are serious about animation, Blender is the better program but it has a harder learning curve. It rivals high-end software like Softimage XSI, Lightwave, Maya and Cinema 4D. I have written to Ulead to carefully look at Blender and integrate its features into the new version of COOL3D PS.

Here's the movie galleries page.

Take a look at Andy's work. "Mindfields" is my personal favorite. He is a 19 year old German student and only uses 3 programs for all his animations. Blender3D for all 3D work, Corel Photopaint for texturing and matte paint and Adobe Premiere for editing. He has a bright future ahead of him. Enjoy.

recommended applications

Hi Pjay, et al,

it's hard to recommend a competitor to 3DPS, as it is now geared towards adding spectacular effects to text and other objects over an avi (or movie) file, though it can do other things.

It is particularly good at this, though I find it slow to render and with more than a few elements in an animation, sluggish to use. But it does seem tohave a fairly shallow learning curve.

Blender does seem to have a lot of capabilities, though as another poster said, it has quite a learning curve. This seems to me to be the lot of 3D animators, as each application seems to have a unique interface.

I have and use Caligari's TrueSpace, as I find it puts more power at my fingertips than any other application. (That I can afford, that is!)

Bear in mind 3DPS doesn't allow you to model objects using dimensions: medium and high end applications do, so that to create a beer can, you create something with the exact dimensions of the can; to model a car, you need to model its exact dimensions, and so forth.

But for movie titles with or without great particle effects, it's 3DPS.

And a new version coming out would be very good news.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Guys
Thanks for your replies I really apreciate it, Blender looks like a wickid proggie, Im amazed its for free  I do see your points on the steep learning curve but hopfully that wont be so tough for me, sounding confident here, because I have Been using Cad (TurbocadV8pro) for the last 6 years so have half a clue. Its just gettin familer with the tools and the interface. Hey rwernyei I took a look at Andy's work at blenders site WOW WOW WOW is all I have to say about that, some amazin work there. Just downloaded Blender and gettin the vid tutorials while I type this, man there large in file size.

I do like C3DPS and proberbly will buy it when the new version comes out. I have a few unfinshed c3ds files to do for websites so I hope the new version comes out soon.

Wonder if the nice folk at Ulead would extend my trial till the new version gets relesed if I guarentee to buy it  .

Thanks again guys

It was me rwernyei that suggested Blender and to take a look at Andy's work. Please, give credit where credit is due. Thanks.

Since my Cool 3d P/Studio Trial ran out I thought I would give Ulead COOL 3D 3.5 a shot. It dont seem that different from Cool 3d P/Studio What are the better benifits to be had by buying Cool 3d P/Studio ? from what I see theres the lath object that you dont get in COOL 3D 3.5.
