VS9 - Preview Not Good

Post by Rich2Putt »

PC - P4-3.0
512 RAM
160 gig HD dedicated to VS9

With VS9, when I use preview, the playback is very jumpy and the sound is either ahead or behind the video, or digital pixels show on the preview screen (difficult to "rubber band" the sounds).

In preference menu, I use "instant playback" rather then "high quaility". I had used this setting in VS8 and the playback was much more stable.

Is there a way to view a more stable preview? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also could "smart render" be causing this? If so, how do you disable it?.....

Thanks.........

Hi,

I would check to see how many processes are running in the background. That and the amount of video processing on the timeline, speed of computer, all make a difference.

Try EnditAllto close all programs.

Good luck,

Mike

You may also have set the Preview target to something other than just the Preview window. If it's set to include a DV device that's not hooked up or turned on, or a dual-head device that requires rendering to a second display, it could slow things down.

How does one change the "preview" target?

I have an ADS analog to digital converter box and it's always turned off when not in use.

I seen the dual device setting somewhere. I'll look at it tonight when I leave work.

Thanks for the info..........

It's in the Preferences, in the General tab.
