I downloaded a trial of version 9 (I still use 5 lol) It seems pretty nice and easy to work with, with few exceptions.
I know when you split scenes in that paticular dialog box you can join them, but when they are separated and you are done adjusting them (i.e. color bal, hue, etc.) is there a way to combine them then? When your looking at the filmstrip down below? This would make it a lot easier.
Also when you do the split scenes, and want to join them, is there a way to uncheck all the boxes, because there may be several scenes to join?
The problem on some of my home movies there are several scenes I would like to combine separately?
thanks
Joining or combing clips

I usually use the SHIFT-CLICK to select only the ones I want and join them into a single thumbnail. Then I select the next group I want and do the same to it, etc. It works well on my system.
For instance, I have 9 clips, I select the first 3 and join them, then clips 4, 5 and 6 and join those then 7, 8 and 9 and join those.

joining in filmstrip
Thanks, I will try that, is there a way to join them once you are out of the dialog box where you split the scenes?

Hi Bruce,
I'm unclear as to what you want to do.
There are several ways to combine scenes, and what you want to do is key to helping you out.
You might have a long line of scenes that you worked on the timeline; that can be save as either a movie and put into the bin or save the project - VS9 can load projects as well as clips.

joining
I know one way to join is when you, split by scent it brings up another box that allows you to separate into scenes. In this box you can joing similar clips. You click the scan to break it into scenes, then you join.
Once this is done you can click ok, then they are put in the filmstrip in the bottom section of the VS9 screen. In this case about 164 frames (scenes)
Now here is the situation, how, or can I join certain scenes now?
I can highlight certain sections of these frames, I right click on those and check for a join, or I click the edit or clip, but there is no join (or combine frames) (storyboard view)
The only way I see to join the clips is in split by scene?
Hope that clearifies it rather than complicate it.
Thanks Bruce

164 frames is 5 seconds and 14 frames. 164 picons on the timeline (representantions of scenes) is a different thing.
You can F3 the start and F4 to create In (F3) and Out F4 points and Share, Create Video File, Options, Radio Button "Preview Range."
You can save the project as x, then as x1 then delete all scenes except what you want, the save again. That VS9 project will act like a scene as long as the clips are available to it.
Open x, then save as x2, repeat for new scene.
You can do that until the cows come home...

I have a suggestion that may be worth trying. Would you consider using DVD MovieFactory 4 to join the clips for later editing in VideoStudio 9?
Here are three screen shots demonstrating what I'm talking about:
First, you start MF4 and insert all of the clips you wish to work with. Click the Advanced Options button to reveal the Join Video control.

Select the clips you want to join (on this example, I chose the first 3 that are shown in blue highlight) and then click the Join Video control.

Once this is finished, you can choose to export that newly joined clip as an individual file in whatever format you prefer:

You can then pull it in and edit in VideoStudio 9 if you wish, to get just the right combination of frames and clips you are looking for.
I hope that is helpful to you.
Best of luck.
