How to move all clips to another video track?
Hi all,
Pls I want to ask, using VS10 plus, how I can move all video clips in track 1 (main video track) to the overlay video track without first creating a video file of the footage?
A concept just occured to me after almost finishing editing a 1 hour recording. I discovered I need to move all to an overlay tracks & get something else done in the main video track.
Your response is appreciated.

Click on the first clip on the track, then hold the Shift key and click on the last clip that you want to move. This should highlight the first and last clips, as well as those in between. Now simply drag them to another track.

Yes, what Jean-Pierre is referring to is to make sure the overlay tracks are set for Fit to Screen (found under File>Preferences).

Thx for your prompt response. I tried this and I was able to select all clips at once BUT cannot get it dragged to another track. What have I not done right? I even made sure the overlay tracks are set for Fit to ScreenBlack Lab wrote:.....Now simply drag them to another track.

I don't know - works for me. Do you have anything else in the track you are trying to move them to? Do you have Ripple Editing for that track on or off?

I opened a fresh video track with nothing in it. My Ripple editing is off for all tracks..... I even attempted copying it up to Library Manage, it will not paste.Black Lab wrote: ... The indication sign I always see, making all these attempts, is a small circle with a slash inside it: I guess, indicating not possible.
Still waiting on u all.

Ok let's look at this possibility...
VS10+ or VS11.5+ does not allow transitions in the overlay tracks. So in order to move all the clips in the main track to any overlay tracks, you first must remove all transitions. Then you should be able to move them all as described above.
Copying clips from a track to the library, needs to be into the appropriate libraries. You can not copy image clips into a video library and vice-versa. I done a short quick test, where I had a mixture of video and image clips in a video track. I selected all of them, and dragged it up to the video library. Just the video clips were copied. I then changed to an image library, and repeated the process. Well just the images were copied, so it will allow copying several at a time into the appropriate libraries, just not all the different media into all the different libraries.

Good call Ron. That could be it.VS10+ or VS11.5+ does not allow transitions in the overlay tracks. So in order to move all the clips in the main track to any overlay tracks, you first must remove all transitions. Then you should be able to move them all as described above.
You cannot copy & paste. What you want to do is drag & drop.I opened a fresh video track with nothing in it. My Ripple editing is off for all tracks..... I even attempted copying it up to Library Manage, it will not paste.

Every suggestion has made me discovered additional ways of using VS10 plus. I'm grateful.
Suprissingly, the easiest solution to my problem came very cheap thru the response of Black Lab in another post I made on How can I add live clock/time to video?. Sorry I don't know how to copy out the link but this is the response:
Thanks all.

While experimenting this, I stumbled into the solution to another problem. You could do it two ways:
Start a new project and put those 12 clips on the timeline and save as a VSP. Now go back to your original project and insert that VSP into your timeline. It will be treated as one clip and you can add the filter to it.
Or you can render those 12 clips to a video file and insert that into your project, then add the filter.
Jeff
Thanks all.
