DVD - and DVD + what format are video hire shop DVDs in?

Post by ruggy1 »

After using MF4 to produce DVDs for a friend using DVD- blanks, I came across the rarest of beasts - a Phillips DVD player that could only play DVD+. For several years I know that all manufacturers have avoided the VHS/Beta wars by producing players that support both formats. My question is - after examining hired DVDs I cannot determine their format from the enscriptions on the disks. If they are all DVD- should I tell my friend to throw their Phillips player away? Thanks

Will it play DVD-ROM? The format most commercial movies are produced in?

If you get a BenQ DVD burner, like the 1620 or 1625, you can use DVD+R disks and use a feature called Bit Setting to make it appear, for all intents and purposes, as a DVD-ROM disk to that video player.

That may be one option.

Good luck
